So, 90% of the time when I cook there's something that LO will spit out, and I'm thinking its because of texture. She spits out pears, peaches, kiwi, squash, zuchini, brocooli. I'm thinking because most of it is "slimy", she's not eating it. She'll eat fruits like banana or grapes, but banana is slimy too? And she'll eat cucumbers which is slimy, but not the others.
One thing is for sure... she WILL NOT turn down carbs. Breads and pastas are her favorite! Bagels and muffins for breakfast with puried fruit (the only way I can get her to eat them) and she loves spegetti, lasagna, alfredo, any of the pastas.
I'm trying to keep her introduced to healthy foods... but she keeps denying a lot of them. She does like meats, turkey, chicken, beans, so she's good in the protein area.
Any ideas?
Re: Picky about textures
Pretty normal at this age. If she is still doing it 18+ months (the same foods or only wanting purees) then I would be concerned.
DD had food issues after 18 months and did occupational therapy. She now eats everything....even curry and sushi.
DS is just like your DD. spits out most things still and won't try many foods, still won't eat meat. We are giving him some time before looking into an eval
The difference between both kids is DD was freaked out by food. Serious anxiety attacks, throwing up, when something (even her fav) would come out of a microwave or touched her lips. She would often refuse everything and only eat 2 Salteen crackers a day....and went on a milk strike! She ONLY wanted pur?e punches at 22 months. DS eats carbs, cheese, yogurt, and is just in a picky stage with most things.
If you think it is texture there are some activities you can do. Let them play with tooth brushes, whipped cream (let them get very messy) put things in rice...praise them for putting it to their lips, chewing but spitting it out, or only taking one bite. I even praise for touching the food since you want to encourage all sensory exploration.
I never post on here, but signed on to post this exact question/issue. My DD is 10 months and seems to have the same texture issues. She will eat anything crunchy - puffs, cheerios, etc, but NOTHING else solid (only purees). Periodically, I can get her to eat a small piece of banana, but only if I spoon-feed it to her and force it into her mouth. I wasn't sure when we should be concerned, but sounds like it isn't a huge deal as of right now.
