Looking for birthday party activities for my 4 year old

My son is going to be 4 years old October 27th- I plan to have 6 kids and a few adults over to celebrate. I looked into having a magician, balloon maker, build a bear etc but these guys are so expensive! Does anyone have any inexpensive ideas to keep the kids entertained? Being that it's in Oct and I live in Boston, I can't assume it will be good weather to have it outside. TIA!

  • Fall themed art projects - buy a bunch of small pumkins and some paint or markers and stickers and let the kids decorate them and then take them home.  Any arts and crafts project really can work great inside or out.  A scavanger hunt - make the list out of pictures and have the kids look for the items in the yard or the house.  Make your own xyz (fill in the blank with a type of food - pizza, cupcake, etc) and then serve that at the party.  Pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs (that one might be hard with a group of little boys).

  • was just went to a bday party and the mom had a few good/simple ideas that the kids LOVED:

    1.  had chocolate fondue, big sticks (like popsicle ones), a bunch of sprinkes, colored sugars etc and big marshmallows....had the kids skewer the marshmallows, dip them in the chocolate and then roll them in the decorations--popped them in the fridge and then put them in goody bags to take home--the kids loved doing it

    2.  she bought a glitter tattoo kit--it was a multistep step process....pick a stencil/stick on skin, brush on glue, brush on glitter, brush off glitter.  Again, it was a huge hit.

    3.  simple games--ring toss, pin tail on donkey etc and gave out little prizes to everyone

  • thank you! Those are great ideas!Smile
  • Just to throw out another idea- we had my son's bday party at our local fire station. The adults liked it because we are all neighbors and it felt like a cool community building thing. The kids loved it too, of course. We were going to have cupcakes and gifts on the lawn after the tour, but because it rained we ended up back at our place for a short time. The whole thing lasted 2 hours and only cost me the cake!
