I took it yesterday and received a call this morning that I had failed the test. I am going back in first thing tomorrow morning to do another (2 hour) one. Fingers crossed I pass it.
Anyone else here fail the first to go on and pass the second? Or alternatively, does anyone have GD and can tell me about it? I googled it...bad idea. Most things are positive, but then I read about still births and good chance of a c-section etc.
I know this has been posted a million times, but I looked and couldn't find any previous posts about it.
Re: Failed the one hour Gestational Diabetes test
Failed the one hour, passed the 3 hour with flying colors. Watch your carbs and sugars. Eat meat, raw veggies, whole grains with a protein (ie high fiber, low carb bread with natural peanut butter), cheeses, fresh fruit with a protein (like apples with pb) but watch too much fruit. Limit potatoes and white grains. Also, exercise. Going for a 30 minute walk can drop your sugar levels by a lot. Lots of sugar free liquids too.
Really watch what you eat the night before your test, for my one hour I ate potatoes, apple slices, and some pasta the night before. DUMB, DUMB ME. For my 3 hour, I watched my foods carefully the two days before it and walked every evening after supper. Make sure you fast for 10-12 hours before your test as well. Mine was at 8am and I didn't eat/drink anything after 9pm (went to bed). You don't want to get a false result that you have it if you don't by eating the wrong foods before hand or not fasting, especially if you end up being borderline. All my draws had my sugars right where they should be and I was still told to watch my carbs and sugars since I had failed the one hour test, but I don't have to prick my fingers daily or deal with the weekly phone calls from our health plan nurse (someone who has never seen me, just works for our insurance company half way across the country) to "check up" on me.
I have GD. I also had it with DD. I managing it with diet and glyburide. And there is a silver lining- I stopped gaining weight when I was dx with DD and haven't gained any weight THis time.
I did have a c-section with DD, but that was due to a low AFI which *could* have been due to the GD...or my age...or dumb luck. I have vasa previa this time which has nothing to do with GD.
The worst part of GD is the needle sticks 4x a day. And misses out on Fall goodies. Thankfully, I have discovered Edy's SugarFree Fudge Tracks ice cream. It is manna from heaven.
i failed the one hour, by only little. thye were going to have me do the 3 hour, but i got sick so they switched me to the 2 hour.
im still waiting on my results!!!
GOOD LUCK
