Question for those w/ Experience with OT....

In your opinion, how much OT would be appropriate for a kid who tested in the first percentile for hand strength / grasping?

Re: Question for those w/ Experience with OT....

  • Our OT recommended weekly OT for DD--she tested in the first percentile as well.  Did the OT who performed the evaluation make a recommendation?

She did.  She rec's 1 - 2 hours per week.  This is a private OT that we just started seeing because I haven't been psyched w/ the school services.

We've been doing 1 hr/wk for about 2 months, and I'm definitely seeing progress.  We work on things at home a lot, too.  My DD is very cooperative and happy to work on things with us, so I feel like once a week is sufficient--that and there's no way we could afford more than that out of pocket.

  • We did 2x / week for 3 months and then went down to 1x / week for the remaining time.  DS has a hand difference so we had to do more off the bat inorder to get him close to where other kids his age were.

Ours was private because ECI wasn't very helpful in the beginning since he wasn't delayed enough at the time.
