Moving - New Bedroom

We're moving this weekend and I'm concerned my 18 month old won't be able to sleep or that she'll be scared in her new bedroom. I'm going to arrange it as similar as possible to her old bedroom -- any tips or ideas if you've moved with a LO??

Re: Moving - New Bedroom

  • We moved when DD1 was 17 months. Her room was the first thing we set up when we got in the new house, and we set it up as similarly as possible to her old room. We kept with her bedtime routine and she slept great from night one.

  • Keep as much the same as normal, and be excited when talking about the change. DD has been in 5 different rooms, 4 different apartments and houses since being born. The routine staying the same is important. And just expect a week or two of possible random waking in the middle of the night or confusion. We really haven't had huge sleep regression issues except for our last move 6 months ago... We had moved from MA back to TX and the sound of the AC always switching on and off scared the crap out of DD, she thought it was a lion for a good month or two. DS is totally unphased by moving and it has never really effected his sleeping.

  • We moved when LO was 18 mos too. We showed her pictures of her "new room" for months and she was really excited about it. We kept her bedtime routine the same and she has slept perfectly since night 1. The only thing that freaked her out was the sound of her new tub draining.

  • Agree with PPs. Talk about the new house/apt/room as something to be excited about, get it set up first and try to keep what things you can the same, but most important is keeping the same routine.
