Hi. I'm a FTM, not quite due yet but getting my stash ready. I've been lurking this board for a while, as well as the FAQ and tons of youtube videos. I thought from what I had gathered that prefolds needs half as many covers. I.e. 24 prefolds to 12 covers. But then I noticed on the "how many CDs do you have" thread that many people had 30-40 prefolds to only 6-7 covers.
I intend to start off with 24-36 GMD Yellow prefolds, and work my way up to GMD Red prefolds when he outgrows those. I ordered 6 Flip OS covers and 1 Palm Tree OS cover, so 7 in all. I also have 6 BG 4.0's. Do I need more covers than 7? I was looking to get about 12-13 until I saw that thread.
Advice is greatly appreciated.
Note: I'm choosing not to CD right away, hence no NB prefolds/covers.
Re: Prefolds and Covers
I am a FTM too, so take this advice with a grain of salt:
I wanted to do exclusively PF and covers too, but being after being a nanny in college / months of lurking here, learned that some babies do not tolerate just PF (as they feel wet as soon as your LO pees) and they get upset because they do not like feeling wet. Granted some kids are not like this. I nannied for twin boys and one of them was in pockets and the other PF because twin A hated feeling wet whereas Twin B didn't care. Whatever method you go for I hope it works for you - just wanted to give you something to think about!
ETA: I just saw you have 4.0.....ignore me!
My baby is one that HATES being wet. We cut up some fleece and used them as lining, he is MUCH happier with that addition.
This! Fleece liners work great.
