I know when you are BF you're supposed to have a couple hundred extra calories a day, but I'm finding it so hard to find time to eat. I SAH and EBF and am good at drinking lots of water, but eating is another story. DS is a terrible napper so I can't rely on eating when he naps, since often the only way he'll nap is on me or in the carrier while walking around. It's almost dinner time here and all I've eaten today is some toast, a banana, some carrots with hummus, and two granola bars. I do eat a good full dinner every night, but I find it so hard to eat during the day. How is eating going for other BF moms?
Re: BF moms, what do you eat in a day?
I am SO hungry all day! I eat 2 pieces of toast for breakfast, a piece of fruit between breakfast and lunch, usually soup or a sandwich or a bit of pasta for lunch, and a HUGE supper. Last night I ate a full rack of ribs, a cup of rice, and 2 corn cobs. I also have tons of snacks.
I feel like I am probably eating WAY more than 500 calories extra a day. But if you are not hungry maybe you don't need way more? I think as long as you eat breakfast lunch and supper, at least something, you will be ok.
I make sandwiches and leave them ready the night before. I also set up snacks by my rocking chair to eat while BFing.
My LO also naps on me, so I get all my snacks ready before hand. DH has been cooking, now that we ran out of frozen meals. He makes my plate and fetches me food
I'm hungry all the time as well.
A typical day for me looks something like this:
B: two pieces of toast with a hard boiled egg, milk
S: fruit of some kind (usually berries and/or a banana), tea
L: sandwich or soup and a chop salad, diet soda
S: crackers, cheese, yogurt, tea
S: frozen yogurt and berries
I often find myself making a PB&J sandwich in the middle of the night as well.
I need to work on getting enough water..Its so hard to get up and get water when LO is either sleeping on you, nursing, or you are exhausted yourself and can't even get out of bed when LO finally is asleep.
My meals usually look like this.
B- Yogurt and granola
S- Pretzels and hummus
L- chicken salad sandwich/ turkey and cheese or some kind of sandwich
S- fruit or yogurt
Dinner- protein, veg and carb
Desert-whatever I feel like....sometimes even chocolate or cookies, or ice cream
I am pretty much hungry all the time. And sooo thirsty. I think I drink a gallon of water a day. I try to just eat like I did while pregnant, just grazing throughout the day. A typical day would be:
6am: 2 packs of instant oatmeal
8:30 am: hard boiled egg
9:30 am: turkey sandwhich
10:30: granola & dried fruit
11:30: piece of fruit, usually banana or apple
1:00pm: soup & brown rice
3:00pm: granola bar
4:30pm: trail mix with almonds, sesame seeds & dried cranberries
6:00pm: spinach salad, maybe some pasta
7:30, ice cream or cookies
Now that I've actually looked at everything I eat, no wonder I still have 12 lbs to lose!
I eat this exact menu almost every day minus the weekend...
S on way to work - granola bar
B - 2 eggs and toast (my work has a cafeteria with full breakfast offerings)
S- fruit or trail mix or 100 calorie pack of oatmeal squares cereal or 100 cal pack of almonds (sometimes 2 of these four if I am still hungry)
L - salad with lots of veggies/dressing/hard boiled egg + yogurt. Or, Lean Cousine meal + yogurt, or leftovers + yogurt
S- fruit or trail mix or 100 calorie pack of cereal or 100 cal pack of almonds (whatever snack(s) are leftover from the morning...I always pack these 4 thingsfor my snacks)
D - pasta or casserole or meat/veg/carb
Dessert - 60-calorie Ciao Bella Blood Orange Sorbet bar. These are amazing!!!
