Extra tooth?

DS was just laughing and I noticed a new tooth popping through behind/between two of his baby teeth. He already has all his teeth! Is this a grown up tooth already? An extra? How soon should I bring him to the dentist. I'm totally weirded out! He got his first teeth at 5 months and had his full set before DD did... If that means anything.

Re: Extra tooth?

  • He has 20? If so, I'd ask a dentist right away.

    Ditto this. I'd ask.

  • Extra teeth (supernumerary) are pretty common. It's time for him to see a dentist anyway so I'd just go ahead and set up an appt.

  • Thanks for the feedback. We were going to wait until he turned 2, but guess we'll go a little earlier. DH and MIL both still have 1 baby tooth the dentists have no idea how they are there, no roots or anything. This one just concerns me because it's not even close to being in line with the others and I'd hate to see him have to get a tooth pulled so young in his life Sad Poor kid is healthy as a horse, but has every random little thing wrong with him... helmet, tight muscles and terrible flexibilty (thanks to DH again), thick frenulum in both places in his mouth (had to be snipped), ...now this.
