Carrier help

I thought this would be the best place to turn. I didn't babywear my DD until much later. I tried with a Moby multiple times when she was really little, but no amount of Youtube videos or anything could keep it from riding up from hips and having her slide around (I am all lower half and almost no upper half). So I know that doesn't work well for me. I did get an Ergo later on and loved it! We actually got a new one for DH and I to share.

We were planning on just getting the newborn insert and dealing with it for a few months. However, I really want something for around the house and for going out that is highly washable for the beginning. I was looking into a K'tan, don't know if that would have the same issue as the Moby, and a ring sling. TY!

Re: Carrier help

  • Hmm...not sure if you still have your moby or not but it sounds to me like you didn't have it tied tightly enough.  The great thing about wraps is that they fit all body types because they tie on.  The moby has a LOT of stretch so it should be tied on pretty tightly before you put baby in.  Also with a newborn (unless you are super super short) it's not really going to be around your hips at all but more around your natural waist (as baby's head should be right under your chin).  I'm also very slim on top with a small waist and a "booty" and I've never had issues.

That said, if you didn't love the moby...lots of other options!  The k'tan isn't bad for the newborn stage - the downside to it is that it doesn't adjust so sizing is very important (they run big so size down).  But if you get the right size it's a nice way to have the snuggliness of a wrap without the tying.

Ring slings are great as well.  I have info on choosing as well as other carrier options in my siggy link that might help you decide.  ;)

  • I did tie it really tight. I just never got it right and it rode up a lot on me. DD almost fell out of it at a mall once. Not good. Maybe it was user error, I dunno. I"m really put off from them though. I just wanted a nice simple cuddly kind of newborn carrier. I love my structured carriers, but they aren't the best for the beginning. So what would you suggest with that? Would I still have tie issues with a K'tan? Also, what size should I get? I was a size 14 prepregnancy, but I gain a lot of weight and was a size 18 for 2 months after DD.
