Boys' shoes question

DS has a pair of Stride Rite sneakers that he wears most everyday to daycare, etc. He also has a pair of cheap sandals that he wore sometimes during the summer but they are getting really small now and summer is over.

What other shoes besides sneakers does your child (boy in particular) have?

Re: Boys' shoes question

  • Aiden pretty much wore sneakers in the winter.  He always had a pair of nicer shoes (brown dress shoes usually) but sneakers was pretty much what he wore daily!

  • He has a pair of slip on croc-type shoes that he throws on to go outside here at the house and a pair of slippers that he wears inside around the house - but he always wears sneakers when we leave the house.  His school actually specifically requests them since they go outside a lot.

I'm sure we'll get him a pair of loafer type shoes for the holidays - but for now it's mainly the sneaks. ;)

  • I am so cheap when it comes to shoes, I go to Stride Rite and get one pair but go to payless for the rest.  DS has tennis shoes, brown boots, and I am thinking of getting some kind of black dressy looking shoe--nothing too over the top fancy, but something he could wear to dinner or church but also something that he could wear with jeans and just bum down (if that makes sense).

  • We are cheap when it comes to shoes as well. He doesn't wear shoes in the house and usually only wears shoes when he goes to school or we go out to play. We do sneakers. He does have a pair of shoes that are nicer for special occasions but we do stick to sneakers. We have 2 pairs, one is velcro and the other is Converse tie shoes. We did the tie shoes because they stay on his feet better and we can practice tying shoes. I don't think that's something you really are looking to start just yet though :)

  • We plan to get DS a pair of boots as it gets colder, but right now he has a pair of Stride Rite sandals, a pair of Sperrys (that's more of what he wears everyday), a pair of Adidas (for shorter periods of time) and rainboots. If I see a good sale, I sometimes stock up on bigger sizes (or smaller ones for his future little brother's arrival) Big Smile

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! He does wear his sneakers 90% of the time, I just kind of wanted to have a back up (in case his shoes need to be washed, etc - it's happened before). I will probably pick up something cheap at Walmart or something. I can't really think of an occasion where he'd need "nice" shoes, but maybe the holidays.

  • We just do sneakers, flip flops, and crocs. DS1 has extra wide feet which are really hard to find, so its not like i can just get him a pair of dressy shoes of the rack at target or somewhere.

  • DD wasn't too into shoes until recently, so she normally had a pair of good sneakers from Stride Rite and then a pair of brown Mary Jane's.  Now, she's getting picky so we have all kinds of pink/silver/glittery Mary Jane's and ballet flats that she wears regularly and also good sneakers.

Oh DS has extra wide feet too. The Walmart sandals I got him were okay, but I haven't tried "dress" shoes yet.

  • FYI- Stride Rite online is having a really good sale-some of the shoes are 50 and 60% off.

  • Sarah, 6pm.com usually has some pretty good deals on shoes, and you can sort by foot width and size.

Kieran has 2 pairs of sneakers that we switch back and forth and a pair of crocs that still fit.  He had some brown leather sandals during the summer that wore all the time but they were dressier so I liked the fact we could dress up an outfit if needed.

I have three pairs of shoes ready in the next size, all sneaker but different colors, styles and brand. I have a pair of stride rite, keen sneakers, and a pair of the squeaker shoes which I plan on taking the squeaker out of.

Kieran also has a wide foot.  We normally stick with stride rite and buy on the daily deal websites when they have a sale, in the outlet store when they have a sale or 6pm.com.
