Hi ladies-
Sorry I've been majorly MIA lately but I've started my MEd and it's been taking up SO. MUCH. TIME. Not to mention two kids with opposite nap schedules...anyway...
So today I lug the stroller, carseat with infant and 3-year-old into bulk foods store. I get what I need and I'm in line behind a lady holding a car seat. As we're waiting to pay, a third woman comes in and starts asking people in line if they left their child in a car - apparently there was a not-quite-two year old sound asleep in a car, totally unattended. We pay for our stuff, head out and sure enough there is the child laying there in direct sunlight (it wasn't too hot out, but still.) So I take out my cell phone to call the police and one of the women says "maybe it's that guy." There is a middle aged guy heading toward the car with his purchase - two bags of candy. Sure enough it's his car. We ask him what he was thinking leaving his child in a car unattended. "Well, it was locked." I ask him if he knows how easy it is to jimmy a lock or smash a window. We tell him we were about to call the police or CPS:"I'd like to hear what they would say - I know a lot of parents who do this." He then goes on to say that the child never sleeps, he didn't want to wake him, they are sleep deprived...blah blah blah. Seriously? You're saying this to three MOTHERS? Two of which hauled their heavy car seats because they would never think of leaving their child alone unattended? I was so pissed. I know the odds of anything happening are slim, but why take the chance for candy?? I can only hope the lashing we gave him makes him think twice, though if he's stupid enough to do it in the first place I'm sure he'll do it again. Oh, and there was a second carseat in the car - not sure where that child was. Probably home alone.
