When do you have time to exercise?

I just can't seem to make it happen! I've been trying to get up early and walk before heading out & about and that seems to work ok but I don't always make it. I used to run before getting pregnant but I know you're not supposed to run the the babies until they're like 8 months. I either have to get up at like 5am or wait till DH comes home at 7pm to go for a run and lets be honest, I am just not going to wake up at 5 after being up several times a night if I don't have to! And at 7 I'm so tired and just want to spend time with family and have to get DD ready for bed. I'm feeling the flab, my friends, feeling the flab.

Re: When do you have time to exercise?

  • I exercise at night.  We take a walk every morning but I don't really consider that my work out.  I do my runs at night around 9ish.  DS is asleep and DH is relaxing.

  • With 1 kid it was easier - we'd go for a walk every morning with the stroller.  Brisk, for an hour.  We did that every day apart from rainy weather.  Then also I would go to the gym after DH got home from work, and on weekends.

Now, with 2 kids it's harder.  We manage a walk in the stroller most afternoons - DS2 has his 3rd nap then.  But they are really heavy to push now.  And on days DS1 is at preschool I go on our elliptical (at home) while DS2 is napping.  I'm feeling the flab also, but it's more diet-related than exercise-related, unfortunately.  BFing just makes me so hungry, and craving junk:(

  • I guess if I really want to make it happen I will. Which I don't. But I too am eating junk. Today I had 2 cokes and a twix! I just can't help myself, I'm always hungry and feel like I don't have time to get something nutritious!

I hear ya.  I have a major sweet tooth.  I think it's all about motivation - you need something to work towards.  It's winter here so I have none, no reason to eat better .  But we have a beach vacation planned in Dec with another family so I have to cut back on the sweets soon! if I'm getting into a bathing suit.

  • I just really started getting committed to my workouts about three weeks ago. I commute and work full time, so I'm out of the house from 7am6pm. Then it's dinner, hang out with C for 1 1/2 hours, then put her to bed. Then finally work out. It is exhausting and the last thing I want to do most days.I've found having a workout buddy is best for me, because I need someone holding me accountable to going to the gym. Maybe you can find a friend to run with?

  • I used to exercise at night but lately I don't get enough sleep and never want to bc I am exhausted. I really should be asleep now. Sigh...

  • Before or after dinner. I get home from work around 4:30, and DH will workout while I'm making dinner. Depending on whether or not the girls are super fussy, I'll run before we eat. I try to get out between 45 times a week.
  • I don't exercise. We go for a walk occasionally, but DH works long hours, so I never get out alone, and I work part time, so I feel like i need to catch up on the house on my off days. Now that fall-like weather is here, we may get out for more walks.

I lost the pg weight really easily, but bfing does make me sooo hungry and I've developed a big sweet tooth. I need to exercise at least for health benefits, and some muscle tone would be nice.

  • Not much exercise here.

I walk/jog with her 1-2 times per week. I also walk to my train and office, so per day it is 3 miles of walking or possibly 4-5 miles on the days I go out with her.

I do plan to start exercising in the mornings but I just can't do it until she stops waking twice to eat. Usually she wakes at 1 and 4am and I have to get up at 6am for work. So I just can't get up at 5 after I've just gotten back into bed at 4.20am!!

Also when I'm done pumping I can maybe join a gym by my office and go at lunch.

I've always been an evening/night exerciser as I hate getting out of bed to begin with, but now with LO evenings are my only time with her so I can't go to the gym. I used to lift weights and be a bit toned, now I am not toned at all. I am not fat I have lost the weight but I look different and I feel not good, like my body hurts a lot and I get tired very easily when I do exercise.

It's SUCH a short time in the grand scheme of things though, this has helped me (as a long time exercise addict) to sort of let go and not care so much. She is only 4.5 months old and in a few months I can get back to doing more.

  • It's hard. I've started a class where you take your kid with you in a stroller. I plan to jog with her when she's 8 months. Otherwise, it's impossible. I can't go in the morning because DH sleeps later and doesn't want to wake up to be with her while I exercise and by the time he gets home and we eat dinner, it's practically time to bathe LO and put her to bed, since she goes to sleep at 7:30.

  • My neighbor friend is pregnant, so I started doing an evening walk with her as soon as I get home.  That's about all I get in.  I'm too tired in the morning to wake up early, and by the time I get the kids in bed and wash bottles for the next day, I'm pooped.  Hopefully I can get a teaching job soon so that I can have an earlier schedule and can work out before I pick up the boys at DC.

  • Night, after 8pm.

I try to do mostly crockpot meals, so by the time I get home around 6, I can eat right away.  Then I do kiddo things like baths and prep for the next day.  When Edie goes to bed, I go for a run.  I haven't this past week, though.

Oh, and as a follow up to my DO YOU RUN AT NIGHT thread a while back, I found a well-traveled route on Main St.  I also bought a super reflective vest.

This. Well at least I'm not the only one! We're all in the same boat. Welcome to the new normal I guess!

Yeah this. My bad days far out number my good days lately. I need to get my butt in gear and start working out, but there really is no time right now. Hopefully once we get settled this will change. I'm tired of feeling so blah.
