2cm & 90% Effaced! Today is a good day!

The subject says it all!  I went for my checkup today and to see if our LO was in the right position.  The doc did my Strep B test and checked me.  Our LO is head down, and surprisingly enough she says that I'm 2cm dilated and 90% effaced!  Way ahead of schedule!  She was surprised.  The doc asked us to guess at first and I totally guessed the lowest possible.  Hubby guessed 1cm dilated and 50% effaced.  We were both off.  The doc says that basically I can go at any time right now.  She said that it's a 95% chance we'll make it to our appt. next week but after that anything goes.  There's a good chance that I could pop between now and then too.  She says that with my progress this early, I'm most likely to have a fast delivery and won't make it to our original due date.  So it looks like our Little Lilly will be coming early.  I wasn't expecting to hear that news, but it was great news to hear!  DH and I are so excited now!  So now I need to get my pregnant butt in gear.  I still need to pack my bag and finish decorating the baby's room.  At least I got everything washed and put away.  I've called in reinforcements for tomorrow.  My parents are coming to help me finish everything.  Can't wait!  She's almost here!

  • Congrats!  That's great news!  This week I was 4cm and 75% effaced.  That was on Monday and I'm still waiting to pop.  Things are progressing b/c I'm up at 4:30am now with some period-like contractions....but things are going slow.  I hope yours goes faster than mine!

  • Ugh Ive been 2 cms and 90% since 34 almost 35 weeks. Then I was checked again at 36 weeks and I was barely changed. Nothing I am doing is getting this process rolling. Ever since they gave me the meds to stop preterm labor at 34 weeks, I think its working against me. I would have delivered at 34 weeks but the drs wanted to stop it. Now im so uncomfortable its not funny. LO needs to arrive soon! THe office didnt check me this week and Im sad!

  • Is this your first? I can't see siggys on mobile, ugh. But take what she says with a grain of salt. No one can predict how fast your labor will be or when it'll start. I hope it does go quickly for you, though!

This! My girlfriend has been 3 cm and 100% for 2 weeks (she's 37 weeks as well.)

I hope it's soon for you too! My cousin was 3 cms, 100% at 37 weeks...and 38....and 39....and 40....until she was induced at 41!  That's why I don't want to know. I don't want to get my hopes up!

  • This is our first baby and I was super surprised that I moved this quick.  I'm crossing my fingers that my doc is right and it will happen fast.  Maybe I'll be lucky and be part of that small percentile that delivers a little early.  I do feel things changing with my body this week.  I've been getting braxton hicks real low by my pelvis this week and sometimes they kinda hurt.  I don't think it's a contraction just yet since there's no pattern and I get one here or there.  I do feel like she "bottoms out" if that makes sense.  Once in a while when she moves I feel like she hits the very bottom of my pelvis or something and it kinda feels like stuff relaxes and opens for a moment.  I'm hoping that's a good sign and that when we go in for our checkup next week my progression continues.  This little girl is super active and mommy's bladder needs a break from her little dancing self.

  • Meh, I'd take all of that with a grain of salt. Like PPs have mentioned, you can stay dilated for many weeks.

FWIW, I have been having tons of BH and menstrual like cramping for about three weeks, and when I was checked yesterday, showed pretty much no progress at 37w6d. And my doctor can feel the baby's head very low in my pelvis. So I think internals really mean nothing at this point.
