Considering a different car...

So I was stupid and traded in my mazda 3 for a brand new ford fusion before J was born.  Long story short, I didn't do my research and thought that an infant seat wouldn't fit in the mazda with DH in there (not ever even thinking of using the side seat instead of the middle).

Well, I can pay for the fusion, but the payments are much higher than I want a month.  And, I'm tired of the stress of "don't hit my car!  It's brand new!  Don't park so close, what if they scratch it?".

I just really, really hope I can get a dealership to take it without owing any more on it.  It has high miles since it's our commuter car and our monthly PA driver car, so we're technically in the hole.  I'm really hoping if they want to make a deal that badly, they'll work with us.

No real reason for this, just thinking out loud lol.

  • I'll think out loud too!

I'm jonesin' for a new car, I've had my Matrix since 2007 and it is literally falling apart. But I think I'm going to hold out and get the Alfa Romeo station wagon when it's available in the US next year! I think it's called the Giulietta, it's awesome.

Do you want a Mazda again?

My car is paid off as of last month, and I already want a new one. I'm forcing myself to drive this one for a while and use the car payment money each month to go towards other debt before getting a new one!

Congrats!  I really despise this payment.  I regret this car (but can't tell DH that, he'll take it personally).  It was too much of a spur-of-the-moment, while I was pregnant decision, that made my payment more a month than with the mazda, and extended the loan term.

Basically, I got rooked lol, which is why I want rid of it if possible.

  • If you're willing to mess with it selling it yourself will probably get you more money.

My car needs a new transmission. It's my choice to either fix it or buy a different one. My responsible/frugal brain is saying just fix it. But man, a new (used) car would be fun.

  • I am thinking of getting a minivan next year.  I hate them but will need the room.  My Jeep (which I love) just does not have enough room for 4 of us travelling to see my parents.  Seating yes, it's the storage space for the suitcases, PNP, stroller, etc.  Right now was can travel with the 3 of us but with TTC it won't fit our needs much longer.  And I really, really, really hate minivans but it is what we need.  I looked at a Chevy Traverse last week and it is just a little too small for what we want for room.  It will also suck because I haven't had a car payment in almost 5 years.  We usually keep cars till they die or maintenance becomes to costly.  We bought my Jeep outright 2 years ago thanks to the extra money from DH's deployment otherwise I would be in a similar situation with a car payment and wanting/needing something bigger.

DH is the car guy, so he leans more toward Ford.  He wants to consider Ford, hyundai, mazda, and nissan.

I'm leaning toward a small suv/crossover type thing, but with good mileage.  The mileage is what I really care about, because my vehicle is the one we take on trips.  4 WD would be a great, but not necessary.

    Get a Mustang!

The Ford Flex is a pretty cool car, I like the boxy-shaped vehicles. My neighbor has a Hyundai Sonata and I love that thing!

I actually really like my Matrix if you want a crossover. It has a lot of room -- we have the car seat rear-facing in the middle and we don't have to pull the seats forward at all.

  • I didn't want a van and had a large SUV. We recently traded it for a minivan and its life changing for 2 kids! So just keep it mind...

DH and I agreed that I can get a cool car when we are done with cars seats.

DH was trying trying trying to justify a mustang as his commuter car lol.  Too bad it won't work for him :P  He can't get J in and out RFing with a 2 door.

My man swears by the Ford Escape. He fixes cars and works in a car parts shop and hardly ever sells parts for them. He would never let me get a Kia though. He says they are constantly selling people new parts for Kias.

Good to know!  The escape is a top runner right now.  I found several that seem very promising.

I have a Nissan Rogue - small SUV/Crossover type thing - and I love it.  If I had it to do over, I would splurge for the fancier model, because I find that when I'm driving, I wish there were more spots to put things.  When I'm alone, I dump my bag, phone, iPod, etc. all over the other seat, or I have my coffee in one cupholder and my iPod in the other, but when DH is in the car with me, there's not enough space for stuff.  The fancier model has more of that.  That is seriously my only complaint.  We've taken it on girls' weekend trips with 5 women and all of their weekend luggage and it's been plenty spacious enough.  It's not 4WD, but it's AWD as needed.  I'm not sure what that's called but it turns itself on and off.  And it's a 4 cylinder as opposed to the Murano with 6, so it gets better mileage.

My H works for an auto parts co too and that is exactly how he picks out new cars. Yesterday he said he can't remember the last time he sold a part for a Volvo. They tend to be pricy though.

  • I want a minivan so bad I daydream about it and get jealous when I see moms with a nice one!! LOL I never thought in a million years I would say that!

But right now my car has been paid off for over a year and it is sooooo nice not having a payment that I have to drive it into the ground before we go looking. And even then I know we won't be able to afford a new minivan with me being home now.

  • I love my Ford Escape! It is the perfect size for us right now. I have 2 friends with a Volvo SUV and love it but my Escape was so much cheaper.
