Moms of boys

are you going to teach your son how to dance when he's older?

Re: Moms of boys

  • I can't dance, and neither can DH.  So we certainly won't teach him lol.  I guess if he would express some sort of interest in knowing how (even if it's to impress a girl lol), we'd have my uncle give him some lessons, he owns a dance studio.

  • Yes and no.  I dance around the house all the time.  If he wants to learn how to swing dance my brother can teach him.  My brother used to go all the time before he met his wife.  He would wear the zoot suits and everything.  If he wants to learn to waltz or anything I will go to a dance class with him because I have no idea how to do any of that either.

  • My SIL told me she's been having dance parties in the dining room when her boys have too much energy. She teaches them some fancy moves. I thought that was pretty cool and even if he's too shy to ever do it in public, i think i'd like Q to know how to bust a move.

  • Oh yeah! We are a dance party house everyday!  We will teach him some moves. If he's interested in dance, he can take lessons.

One of our friends sons wanted to take dance (hip hop) at 6. The dad was real resistant, but finally gave in. He's one of the best in the class!

  • I am so clumsy and uncoordinated, it's not even funny, and DH is part Irish, so he does this little jig that he just kind of makes up as he goes, so...yeah, we would need lessons for LO. I think dancing is a good thing for a young man to grow up learning. It's kind of a dying art (at least where we live).
  • Neither DH nor I can really dance, so DS won't learn good moves from us.

That said, both my kids love to dance, so we have dance parties every day in the living room.  Kai does a mean mix of break dancing, creative movement, with a little gymnastics thrown in.

If he shows interest in dancing, we would consider putting him in a class.  Right now it is tough because only ballet is offered at this age, and I know he wouldn't enjoy that.  But we will cross that bridge if and when it comes.

  • I really hope he is a dancer! We dance around now, he mostly bops and claps his hands. My nephew loved to dance when he was a toddler but sadly became to embarrassed to do it anymore (it was the cutest thing ever!)

I danced in college, nothing fancy, but ran the college dance club with my roommate. And I totally admit to knowing some of the moves to the Fresh Beat Band song and dance they do at the end of every episode. H has tried to catch this on video and I will kill him if he does LOL

  • Heck yes! I dance for around the room every day and he just laughs. I always tell him "you won't think this is funny in about 13 years when your friends are over and I'm busting a move".
But really, I'm a pretty good dancer and will definitely be showing him some moves. His dad on the other hand can't dance at all.Stick out tongue
