Anyone putting LO in a full french school?

DH feels very strongly about DS being in a catholic school, I feel strongly about him being in a french school.  We registered him in an english catholic school, but came across a full french catholic school that DS can go too.  We went yesterday to tour the school and get info.  We plan to register him and he can hopefully start on monday.  The only thing that worries me is the correspondence with the parents is done in all french with no translation.  My french is very rusty...it's taking me a while to fill out the forms.  Any pros/cons that you've encountered so far?

    Sounds like a perfect median for you and your DH. I don't know about yourself... I can't think of anything besides taking lessons.

    Mine go to a French immersion school (started last year for prek-3) and we love it. I don't speak a lick of French but fortunately, the teachers know enough English to communicate with us, so we don't have to know French.

    The boys' school offers French lessons for parents, does that school offer that? As a way to brush up?

    I am not in Canada and know the system is different.  I have 2 amazing friends that grew up in Montreal and both went to English speaking schools but do know French (one knows 5 different languages actually).  I would only do a French school if you live an area where French is spoken often or they really will need it for day to day life.  (Sorry, not sure where in Canada you are).  If you are not real comfy with speaking French and everything from the school comes in French, will you be able to assist your child with homework and all of that?  I personally do not love 100% immersion type schools - I know it works differently in Canada but based on seeing what my US friends who chose immersion schools go through, I am just not a fan of 100% immersion programs unless the parents (or at least one) is also fluent in the language.

    My school aged kid (now 5) attends french immersion.  All of the homework and school stuff for him is in french.  So far the correspondence to me has been in english.

    I am planning on getting a tutor for myself to ressurrect my french (long dormant and only used in school) to help me manage.

    By grade 6 (I believe) math and science will be taught in english.

    We'll see how it goes.

    No, but we will be doing a German Immersion school next year for DD. Everything is taught in German, it doesn't matter if the parents don't speak it. You all learn together. This is one of the top-rated Immersion schools in our state, so they must be doing something right!
