Kind of dumb - step stool rules?

So C loves, loves, loves to "step up" on everything!  He's not a huge climber, but will pull anything out (a box, a bucket, a cup, anything) to use as a step stool.  He has a short step stool in his bathroom that he would carry with him everywhere if we let him but we made the rule that it has to stay in the bedroom or bathroom.  Just last night though we got him this mega wooden stool though he can use to get up to the potty.  So, I know this is going to be like the best toy ever for him.  Am I a meanie mom if I continue to enforce that it has to stay in his bedroom/bathroom?  He's very tall to begin with and now with this stool, I can't put anything anywhere without him reaching it!

  • Hey, your stool, your rules.

Alexander is the same way.  He will use a lego block to try to step up onto something else.

Ha, ha!  Exactly!  You don't want to worry about him dragging it into the kitchen and getting into things that could be dangerous.

Ha, I'm totally going to tell this to C!  (And then I'm going to tell him "Jilly said so, not Mommy.")

    OK, that made me LOL!

They have learning towers for the kitchen, if that's something you want to do.  Basically, it's  a secure stool/stair thing so kids can help with or do things at the kitchen counter.

Big Smile   I think those learning tower things are really cool!  I bet he'd like one but I want to wait until he understands not to touch a hot stove, etc.  The stool we bought is just for the potty actually.  Every time we get a poop now, he screams "I change, I change" and we have to immediately drop what we're doing.  I think we need to PT!

    we have two stools.

one tiny plastic ikea one that is in our living room, it is at our front window because he is smudge to short to see out of it. it also gives him the window seat to play with his trucks in etc.

then we have a big one in the bathroom for teeth brushing etc.

honestly he has never tried to move either to other rooms.

We have that little plastic one too and it moves all over the house, at least if I would let him.  He'd probably sleep with it too.  Funny how kids fixate on different things!
