How many ounces at 5 - 5 and a half months?

I seem to ask this question every couple of months, but I just like checking!  Those of you with older LOs, like 5-6 months, how many ounces per bottle are your LOs drinking and how many times a day?

DD drinks 6 ounces a bottle, 5 times a day (STTN) for a total of 30 ounces, but she cried after she finished her evening bottle and I gave her an ounce more.  Just wondering when LOs start to drink more or do you just start solids?

TIA!

  • I've noticed a marked decrease in Julians eating. He now mostly takes 6 oz. every 2 hours which is about 5 bottles a day. He also get's rice cereal and a veggie. I'm interested to see how much everyone else is feeding.

  • Formula or BM? I EP and LO takes 4 to 4.5 oz BM every 3 hrs or so. 5 or 6 bottles a day depending on her nap and sleep schedule. total 20 to 25 oz.
  • C has lately been waking at 5am. I give her a 4oz bottle of formula, and then she goes back to bed with me for a while. Then she has 4 additional 6oz bottles every 3 hours, two formula, two bm, throughout the day, for a total of 28 oz. lately though, she has been crying after her last bottle, so we've been upping it to 7 or 8 oz, but she doesn't usually finish it

  • Wow. I must have a hungry baby! We formula feed and do one serving of cereal. She takes 5oz bottles every three hours starting at 4:30am. She takes 6 to 7 bottles. So, 30 to 35 ounces.

  • DD is eating 6oz bottles every 3-4 hours. She usually ends up with 5-6 bottles by the end of the day. Some days I feel like all she does is eat and others she eats a lot less. We haven't started any solids. She just turned 5 months so we are trying to wait it out until she hits 6 months. I'm getting anxious though.

  • He is EBF. I feed him at 6:30am before daycare. He eats 18 to 24 oz 3 to 4 6oz bottles at daycare and then I feed him when I get home two to three times.

  • I FF and L takes the same amount as yours. She is not on solids although she has tried them a few times, just nothing regular.

  • DD is eating 5 formula bottles a day.

The first 4 bottles are 6oz (which really equate to almost 7oz of liquid), and her final bottle of the night at 7pm is a 7oz bottle (which is more like 8oz).

She also has 2Tbs of oatmeal at noon and two icecubes worth (i make her food and freeze it in icecube trays) of a fruit or veggie at 530pm.

Is your DD in daycare? I thought you posted about DC not mixing the bottles properly but maybe I am thinking of someone else. If she is do you just send her to DC with a pre-mix of oatmeal and they give it to her? I can't get it together enough in the morning to feed her breakfast right now...Your schedule sounds good to  me.

  • I EBF, but when I'm at work, our nanny keeps a log.  G seems to take 3-4 oz every 2-3 hours when I'm away.  She has tried to get him to take more and maybe go longer, but he isn't interested lol.

  • EBF - it varies a bit but generally she takes 3 x 5oz bottles while I am gone, feeds from me at 1 & 4am, then at 6.30am I wake her before I leave. Then she feeds after I get home usually at 6pm and then at 8pm before bed.

So 8 feedings but I doubt she could be eating 5oz from me each time as what baby eats 40 ounces of BM per day?!! So I assume that from me maybe she eats 4oz or so, giving a total of 35oz per day? even that seems ludicrous.

Yep shes in daycare and we figured out the bottle thing.  We flat out asked them how they were mixing the bottles and they said water first then formula, so DH must have looked at the bottle incorrectly when they mixed the bottle for him that one time.  PHEW!  Crisis averted!

We bought a box of oatmeal and gave it to daycare with instructions to give her  2TBS between 11am-12pm.  We provide the bowl and spoon and they mix it up and feed it to her.  They rinse the bowl and put it in her bag, we wash it properly and put it back in the bag for the next day.
