3rd Trimester

Can't sleep due to not eating for glucose test!

Uuuuugh. I'm so over this already!! My loverly morning sickness came back at 3rd Tri start, and the only way I've been able to manage it is to eat something. If I do, the nausea goes away and all is hunky dory. Well, I failed the 1hr glucose test with a whopping 134... cut off was 130 so, on to the three hour. I'm annoyed because my OB knows exactly what I'm experiencing, and hasn't offered any help whatsoever! She also just recently started laying in to me about my weight gain. She said at my last appointment that I'd gained what she wanted me to for my whole pregnancy. Um. She never told me anything of the sort before! Now she doesn't believe me when I tell her what I'm eating/not eating. I have thyroid issues that we've been trying to get under control for 2 1/2 years, and my OB knows this.

Sorry. Just venting. I'm tired, hungry, nauseated, and not looking forward to being yelled AGAIN. :

Re: Can't sleep due to not eating for glucose test!

  • well that sucks. i'm sorry you failed! but being close to the cut off, i'm pretty sure you'll do well tomorrow! and about the weight gain, was she not monitoring it before? and just told you now that you've reached the limit? so what does she expect you to do now? did she put you on a diet of some sort? anyway, if she hasn't offered any help, maybe you should clear out your problems with her. as for the nausea, i think a sip of milk would be okay, no?

  • Your doc should never yell at or demean you in any way. My docs never say anything about weight gain. I know this cuz I gained 85 pounds with DD. Never said a darn thing. Anyways, I"m sorry you feel likes poop. I get sick during the one hour, I would die during the 3 hour. I hope it passes quickly!

  • So sorry to hear what you're going through!  If your ob knowing that you're pregnant and yelling at you, it's time for an ob transfer.  the drs whatsoever should not yell at their patients especially to a pregnant patient.  I had that before for 2 years when I was seeing my RE for infertility.  I finally switched to another RE who gave me more respect.  You totally not deserved to be treated like that.  Hugs!

  • It's stressful when you are worried about gaining too much weight! My doctor doesn't yell at me, but he cautions me when I have gained too much. One time I gained 6 pounds in 5 weeks and he wasn't happy with that. Then I started having trouble with BP and was going each week for 3 weeks in a row. The first week i lost a pound and then he wasn't happy that I gained 3 pounds in the week after that. Really, I had only gained two pounds in that two weeks and my BP was back to normal. My weight has always fluctuated like that. I appreciate that my doctor is concerned that I will have to take all that weight off after the baby is born, but they definitely don't need to add any stress to our lives.

I hope time goes by fast for you today and that you can go have a big breakfast/lunch after your test!

  • I failed the one hour by ONE point so I feel your pain. The three hour was not bad. You still only drink none of those things, they just draw your blood more. I brought a book and read the whole thing. As for the weight gain, I cannot believe she is just now mentioning it and yelling at you. Maybe speak with a nutritionist and walk at night. Try more filling snacks and consider changing doctors. Your doctor should be on your side.

  • I seriously doubt your OB was yelling at you.  A lecture about weight gain delivered in a stern manner is not yelling.  And if you have thyroid problems I have a hard time believing that you have not discussed weight gain at all before.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • Thank you for the support, ladies! No, she hadn't said anything before about the weight; only "ok, up five pounds this month, heart rate looks good, BP looks good..." and that was it! DH is also annoyed with her because he feels like I'm losing weight all through the rest of my body; my arms are smaller than normal and I still fit in to my prepregnancy pants aside from da bump!

I have a horrid self esteem anyway, after gaining 60 lbs due to a stupid thyroid. And NOW I get this? Grrrrrr.

Again, thanks for the support. as I sit in the drive through for McDonald's for DH to get food..... lol

  • Sorry to hear you failed the 1hr and that you're so sick again! :(

I just wanted to tell you that I know how you feel when it comes to the weight gain. Nothing was said until a few appts ago and then it was "you're at the top of your weight gain range. Try to watch what you're eating or you'll end up way over"
...NOW WHAT? First off.. I have been watching my eating. Not like crazy but I certainly don't eat junk on a regular basis! Sure, I have cravings! Who doesn't?? Thanks for saying nothing the whole pregnancy and letting me think I'm on track!! Now you make me feel terrible and that I have gained WAY too much now that baby NEEDS me to gain more!
(Not that there's ever a good time to LOSE during pregnancy but YKWIM.. I could have tried harder to stay within the amount I was supposed to! IF I KNEW!) So now I'll keep gaining. She (LO) needs me to! I don't care about gaining the weight as long as it's not harmful to her! I'll get it off after.. NBD!

  • Awww, sweetheart. ((This is a big hug))

I am so sorry. The good news is that you stand a good chance of not having GD. My doc doesn't even order the 1-hour, because too many women fail it when they don't have GD, anyway.

Have you talked to your doc about the nausea? Mine has lingered for the whole pregnancy and they gave me Zofran, which tastes like crap, but it works.

    Keep us updated.
