  • I only have experience with the Medela PISA, but I LOVED it.  I pumped 3-6 times per day for a year with it, and it was still going strong when I stopped.  The Medela horns also fit the tops of many inexpensive bottles, so if you can use the cheapies to collect the milk, and then transfer to the bottles your LO uses.

I've heard mixed reviews about the Medela Freestyle- it's pricey and I've heard the motor doesn't pump as well.  For me, the idea of walking around and cleaning or whatever while pumping was totally crazy.  I needed to just sit still and maybe read or do computer work, so plugging in or using the car adapter always worked just fine.  The battery pack also worked fine the few times I needed to use it in a pinch.

  • I am thinking of buying an Ameda this time around.  I had the Medela Freestyle and it was horrible.  I even bought a second one b/c we thought the first was defective.  It was eventually thrown against the wall b/c it doesn't work well and moos like an obnoxious cow.  I borrowed my friend's Pump In Style and another friend's Swing and both worked OK.  Not great.

The moral of my story is that I have tried 3 different styles of Medela pumps with "eh" results.  It could be them or it could be me.  I could just be a low milk producer.

  • I've used the PISA which was nice, then I bought a Freestyle which I LOVED!!! I've never used Ameda.

  • Ameda!!!

  • I was given a Medela PISA as a shower gift and loved it. I went back to work and pumped with it for about 4 months, 3 times a day at work and then once at home before bed. It was comfortable and easy to clean. The carrying bag was discrete and had enough space to carry everything I needed in it for the day as well as a cooler for transporting milk home.
