I had one placed before I had a baby and they say that is very painful but having one placed after a baby is not painful because your cervix has already been opened.
When I got mine placed they had to pry open my cervix with a clamp. It was painful for about 10-15 seconds but now that I've had contractions, I would say those are way worse and lost 10 times longer.
My SIL got one placed after her 1st baby at her 6 week PP check and she said it didn't hurt at all. I'm not nervous for mine in two weeks. Don't worry, you will be fine!
I've had two of them. Getting my third on Monday. There is mild cramping but its over quickly. I loved it. I got pregnant within 5 days of removal with my now 5 week old daughter. Good luck to you!

I don't agree with poster who says ur cervical is already open after u have a baby. you usually get the IUd inserted on ur period as as ur cervix is open then. ur cervix opens and closes at different times of the month. OP: I never had an IUd however five if my friends have and all said that it dies hurt but after it's mild cramping. Good luck with ur insertion

When you've had a baby your cervix has fully dilated at one point. If you haven't had a baby, it's hasn't. Your cervix opens the tiniest amount during your period and throughout your cycle. When the IUD is inserted, they pry the opening of your cervix open and it stays open during the whole procedure. They have to measure your cervix, then place the IUD, all while your cervix is open more than just the amount it's open during your period. They had me take an oral cervix softener the night before I had mine because I hadn't had a baby therefore it would be harder to "open" than someone who has had a baby. I'm no Dr. but this is how my OB explained it to me the first time I got an IUD.

this is also why they say at the end of the commercial "not recommended for woman who haven't had children" my ob will not do the procedure if you haven't had a child
I'm going with the ParaGuard this time and I had the Mirena prior to this pregnancy. Just wanted to add my two cents before and after my first pregnancy, my period was regular and never late. I had the Mirena placed and kept it for about a year and a half. I had it removed because I had a lot of side effects and was ready to start trying for a baby. My periods never got regular again. I would have a period every two weeks, every other month, bleed for ten days...craziness. It took me over two years to get pregnant. Just throwing it out there, explore all of your options if you want more children. Mirena did not work out for me and I wasn't told that it can cause infertility in up to 20 of women. Good luck ladies!

Did you have the Paraguard or Mirena?
my dr told me 3 Advil bc it helps swelling or something?
