Scheduling a date, messing with fate?

I tried to search for this topic, but had no luck.

I have to have a RSC, and I'm pretty uneasy about scheduling a date. It's really important to me that baby come when baby is good and ready. I know that I could just have the hospital staff choose for me, which they just end up doing anyway, but it still bothers me.

Has anyone else had a problem with this, and if so, how did you overcome it?

Re: Scheduling a date, messing with fate?

  • I was terrified to schedule my first RCS because my first c section with my son, who was scheduled by the OB due to being breech, ended up in the NICU because his lungs weren't ready.  However, my daughter was just fine being born at 39 weeks and her sister was too.  I was a little nervous scheduling my little surprise ninja's date because we didn't have a good due date for him, but my 39th week is the week of Halloween and I'd ALWAYS wanted a Halloween baby so I just went ahead and scheduled him for Halloween.  Does your hospital have a NICU?  Because worse case scenario they baby's lungs won't be quite ready and they're really good at dealing with that in the NICU.

  • I was really scared of this for DD2 especially since based on my LMP I was due 11/18 but based on her size at the 8 week ultrasound they moved it up a week... putting her in the range to be born on my Dad's birthday. So we scheduled it for 11/7 and anxiously waited. That morning as we were getting ready I started having contractions. No matter what 11/7 was meant to be her birthday!!!

ETA: She didn't have any lung problems and we left the hospital 48 hours after her birth!!!

  • I have read multiple places that 39 weeks is opportune for CS, it's when the baby is best to be delivered this way.

  • I've had two breach c/s,both were scheduled about one week in advance. With the first my water broke waiting to go down to the OR.With the second I started contracting while they were tacking my vitals. They were both obviously ready to come out,lol

    Mine were 39w4d and 39w1d

  • Mine is scheduled, and I am sad that I know the date. I'm hoping LO comes early (just a little) so there's a surprise date!

(But I know, in the greater scheme of things, knowing the date or not knowing the date is not a biggie.)
