C-sections

C-section issues 9 1/2 months later!

I am not sure if I have  medical  malpractice case or not.  I had a c-section 9 1/2 months ago and have had complications from the incision area ever since.  I have documentation as I have been to the doctor several times to have this treated.  The c-section cut is very large, inflammed and had absesses and stiching underneath that I just had removed.  I am in pain every day from this.  The OBGYN that performed the surgery said there is nothing he can do for me.  I believe there might be more underneath my incision area.  My regular doctor just took out a small piece of string where the absess was. The several doctors that I have seen cannot believe the sight of my scar, how big it is and how horrible it looks.  Thanks for any help.

Well what do the other doctors say as far as getting you healed? I would contact an attorney if you think you do have a malpractice case. My first priority would be getting healed and worry about any lawsuit later.

    Ditto this.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

You didn't ask any questions, so what is it you want from us?

I agree with the other posters that you should focus on getting healthy. Lots of c/s incisions get infected, but a piece of string left there is not cool, and the pain is troubling. As far as size, some are just bigger than others. Mine is a good seven inches wide because my DD was huge. I'm jealous of all the people with 4-5 inch scars, but whatever. My scar is also dark and slightly hypertrophic, but it is what it is.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry I was wondering if anybody else has had issues from their c section scar this long after they had it done, 9 months later.  The pain restricts me from exercising since it hurts so much.  My doctor is finally ordering me to get an ultrasound, hopefully I can find out what is really in there!

Good luck, I'm so sorry you're still feeling so bad.

  • I think first you have to find out WHY it is still this way. It may not be due to malpractice, it could just be infection that is normal, the way you heal, etc.

Second, what would you want from the lawsuit? If all you want is to have the incision reopened, and repaired correctly, it may not be worth the lawsuit.  If there is actual malpractice (possibly the string left still?) then maybe you would want more, but to me you'd want to show that it was negligence that caused the problem and I'd think that may be tricky.

     Anyway- good luck with healing!

  • I'm almost 10 months out, and I have a large, red scar that is still tender. I had no infections or complications, but am just unlucky to be one of those people who form hypertrophic or keloided scars. Infections can really increase the chance of you scarring badly, so I imagine that's why your scar looks worse than most.

There are several layers of stitching in your incision. Some of it is absorbable suture, and some is permanent. If you had an infection, some of the stitches may need to be removed before your body absorbs them. None of this sounds like a malpractice case, and I would worry you would be wasting your time and money. Incision infections are one of the risks of surgery, but it's not malpractice. You can have the scar revised later, after everything has healed, if you want.
