Still no baby..

Sheesh, it seems e-mom is having contractions pretty much every night (around 2 am or so) but then they go away.  I take this as a sign that she's going to go into labor soon, but every day that passes, I just get so anxious!  She said she's going to go into the ER on Friday (if no baby before then), to get checked and possibly see about getting induced.  It makes me a little nervous since she hasn't gone in before, but I guess there is a lot of testing/checks the doctors can do to make sure that it's okay to start inducing..

I can't wait to meet this baby and I can't believe he/she isn't here yet.  This is crazy!

  • Waiting is so hard! I remember trying to find things to keep my hands busy during the day because I was so fidgety waiting for our DS. Praying it is soon!

  • It's pretty normal to have contractions off and on before going into real labor. Some women get B-H contractions for weeks. But, since she's past her EDD, it is pretty likely that the real thing will be coming soon. In my experience, doctors/midwives won't induce labor unless there is a medical reason to do so. Sometimes, that reason is that she's past the 41-week mark, and, after that, there can sometimes be problems with the placenta no longer providing enough nourishment for the baby.

That said, unless it's after hours, there's no reason for her to go to the ER. She should call the OBGYN or midwife on duty at the hospital to discuss what's going on. They can schedule her for a check or induction. Going to the ER will just ensure that she'll have a super long wait with a bunch of sick people.

Thanks for the advice!  She called the hospital and explained her situation so they have already told her what she should do.  The hospital told her that if she's full-term, when she goes in to get "checked" they will most likely admit her and start inducing. But again, I hope there is something they can test to make sure it's not too early to induce rather than taking her word for it on the EDD.  Maybe her using the term "ER" was not really what she meant.
