Hey ladies, I haven't posted in a long long while. Congrats to all the ladies who have new adorable boys and girls! I am 17 weeks as of Sunday, I have been having times when my heart is just pounding so hard in my chest I can feel it pounding in my ears and head too. It is mostly when I am reclined, but doesn't matter which side am laying on. My doctor said sometimes its related to increased blood volume but it should have dissipated by now, and it it continues I should see a cardiologist just to check it out. Did this happen to anyone else?
Re: Heart beating out of my chest
If it persists, keep telling your doctor. Mine passed it off as anxiety early in my pregnancy, but I knew it wasn't. For me, it would happen any time I stayed in any position too long, sitting, standing, laying, and reclining. Switching positions helped, especially laying down if I had been sitting or standing.
It was really disruptive in day to day life and I missed work because of it. My doctor finally listened to me and referred me to a cardiologist. I had to have a cardiac ultrasound and wear an event monitor. I was diagnosed with supine hypotension.
Basically my uterus was pressing on veins and arteries and restricting blood flow. My blood pressure would drop and my heart would have to work really hard. The only solution I was offered was to drink more water and eat more salt to raise my blood volume, and make sure I wasn't in one position for more than 10 minutes at a time.
I hope that your doctor can help you figure out what's going on with your heart. I know that it was a miserable time for me because I felt so helpless. Good luck!
