During our childbirth class last night, we talked about Birth Center policy regarding inductions, how those are handled, and when they become necessary. If I go to 42 weeks, and natural induction methods haven't worked so far, I will need a medical induction.
This scares the crap out of me. I don't do well with medications, my body doesn't process them normally, and sometimes even a pediatric dose of a medication is more than my body can handle. My fear is that they'll start me on a pitocin drip, and that the difference between 2 and 4 (or some other point) will be huge for me and cause things to progress too rapidly, resulting in needing a c section. I have no idea how my body will handle surgery, as I've never had one, but all evidence points to this being a serious problem for me. I'm looking for some reassurance that non medical induction methods are effective, and what I can do to reduce my chances of needing a medical induction. I have an appointment with my midwife tomorrow, and DH and I are going to figure out what we want to ask her regarding this tonight.
Anyone know anything or have any input here?
Re: Natural Induction Methods
Well for one thing, worrying about it now won't help
I don't think anyone can tell you for sure that something worked because if she was overdue to begin with, going into labor may have been a total coincidence.
I can tell you that I was 9 days late. The day I went into labor I used a tincture called Mother's Star. I also had my membranes stripped. Like I said, maybe those things helped or maybe I would have gone into labor regardless.
Prior to that, I tried walking A LOT, sex, etc.
Try to take it one day at a time. You'll likely go past your EDD because most first time moms do. I'd guess that very few actually go a full 2 weeks late. That's quite a bit a wiggle room. HTH!
Trying for #2 since July 2010
BFP 8/1/10, missed m/c, D&C 9/15/10.
BFP 1/8/11, chemical pregnancy.
BFP 3/4/11, measured behind all along, no more HB 4/18/11. D&C 4/29/11. HCG didn't drop, Repeat D&C 6/17/11; confirmed molar pregnancy 6/23/11.
Forced break, including two Hysteroscopies in October to remove retained tissue.
BFP 12/29/11! Betas @ 10 dpo = 85, 14 dpo= 498, 22 dpo = 7242
Heard HB 1/24/12. 144 bpm!
Luca Rose born 9/9/12! More than worth the wait!
Try not to stress yourself out too much about it now. Even though a lot of FTM's go late, a lot don't. Hopefully you will have nothing to worry about.
I was 9 days late with DD. The day I went into labor I had sex and walked a lot. I started nipple stimulation and 1/2 hour later my contractions started. I also had my membranes stripped 2 days prior. Whether all of this had anything to do with going into labor I don't know. My body may have just been ready since I was so overdue.
