VBAC

Didn't opt for a VBAC...

I posted on here months ago about being torn about whether I wanted to attempt a VBAC or not (I had a c/s the first time for failure to progress and fetal distress after 30 hours of labor). At about 32 weeks, I just made the decision for a repeat c/s. I can't really tell you what helped me make my decision....but I just felt at peace.

Fast forward to 39 weeks. On 8/31, I went in for my repeat c/s. It was the most positive, calm, and enjoyable experience. It was so different from my son. I was able to put her skin to skin while I was still on the OR table. She was born at 3:58pm and I was breastfeeding her by 4:40.

I just wanted to share my story for those who are on the fence like I was. I'm not saying you should opt for one method or another...I'm just sharing that you may just figure out what is best for you on your own.

My recovery has been great too. It is such a wonderful feeling to look back and have zero regret.

  • Thanks for this post.  It's great to hear that you had such a great experience and have no regrets.  I think it's too often stressed that a c/s experience must automatically be a less favorable experience than a vaginal delivery.

  • Glad you had a positive experience!  Everyone has to make this decision for themselves and the fact that you felt so at peace should confirm you made the right one for yourself.

  • Great reminder to moms to remember to have a csection plan, if only in the back of your mind, so you can advocate for yourself. I loved my VBAC but knew if it turned CSection I'd once again be pushing for rapid nursing and contact. With DD, my c section baby, I was able to nurse in the recovery room and spend at least 30 minutes with her and DH alone while she nursed; maybe longer, I can't really remember; almost immediately. I would have been pretty sad if I didn't VBAC but sadder if I missed out on that initial nursing which could happen either way. I'm thankful I got it both times!
