December 2010 Moms

My fast & furious birth story!

Thank you for all the congrats! Hospital internet has been weird, but I am back to give my story - when I should be sleeping of course!

Holy crap pretty much sums it up.

I woke up at 2 am to contractions being 5 min apart. I mulled it over for a half hour to make sure they were timeable, then woke MH.

We did some last minute stuff, called our babysitter & she came over right away, then called the OB to tell them we were on our way. We got in the car & I told MH - "get on the Parkway & ride like the wind!" lol

I got monitored from 4-5am in triage, then got my internal. I was 6 cm & contractions were 3 min apart & painful. My legs kept shaking like crazy! We decided I'd get the epi as soon as I got put in a room.

I had some ditzy nurses w/ strong accents & I had to ask again for the epi when I realized it hadn't been ordered. grr

A-hole anesthesiologist did a terrible job, took forever & I had about 4 contractions while sitting up waiting for him to get it right. I was scared & asking questions & he was such a db!

I told the nurses I was already feeling pressure while getting the epi put in, so as soon as I laid flat for the epi to distribute, she checked me. I was 8 cm. She broke my water & as the water streamed out, I SCREAMED! My water breaking must have put me to 10 instantaneously b/c holy crap, I felt the head coming out. Everyone was standing around I swear doing nothing. I was yelling screaming HELP ME, PLEASE over & over!! It was freaking surreal, nightmarish.

Finally my OB comes in, looks as she passes by me yo put on gloves & says, "oh, so we're having a baby!"

They threw my legs up & told me to push. The epi had no time to take affect & I just felt like my whole body was on fire, splitting open. I was totally that crazy woman who you could hear 3 floors away screaming in pain, lol. It was so hard to push b/c my whole body was overwhelmed with, shaking, burning pain.

About 4-5 pushes later, I opened my eyes when I felt the sensation of the body being delivered & suddenly everything was slow motion.

They placed her on my chest & she was immediately calm & content.

She is a peanut - 6 lbs 3 oz, 19 inches long. She has a little bit of dark brown hair on a perfectly rounded head. She stayed awake for about an hour right after delivery & nursed like a pro.

They had to make a small cut, so I have a few stitches, but it's not too bad. All the epi ended up going to my left leg, so that was annoying b/c I had to wait like 2 hrs for it to go away before they could transfer me to my actual recovery room.

But, anyway, here we are now! Just me & her hanging out. MH picked up A earlier today to come meet his little Sissy, and then they went home to have dinner & sleep for the night.

This delivery was so different than my last. Thank goodness DD is so little or I don't think I would have made it through my unintentional med-free delivery. She was born at 6:23 AM, just a little over 4 hrs from when contractions started.

And, ummm...we *think* her name is Deanna? lol We still don't have a middle name & now MH keeps asking me if I'm sure she looks like a Deanna. oy

Thanks for reading & if you got this far, I promise more squishy baby pics to come. My sisters both have been snapping away, so hopefully I'll have good pics to share.
