Bugaboo Help for new mom

Hi ladies! I am expecting my first baby in January 2013 and I'm in love with the Bugaboo Chameleon stroller but have no idea what the best car seat is to use with it. Any suggestions??? I know they have different adapters to use.

Also, if anyone has suggestions on how to make my hubby feel like the Bugaboo is worth the money let me know...he thinks it's way overpriced but I still have to have one!

 Thanks!!!

Re: Bugaboo Help for new mom

  • Tell your DH the following:

    1. You will be using it for at least 3 years.. So the cost per use is minimal.

    2. Resale value.. If you got a cheap stroller for 200 or 300 then it will be worth nothing at the end.. If you sell the bugaboo after a couple of years, then the difference isn't that much.

    3. Ease of use. This is priceless.

  • I have The Donkey for twins... The Maxi Cosi adapter works with mine, and we went with Cybex carseats.  I'm pretty sure Graco carseats work with that adapter as well.  We made sure to order the stroller and carseats at the store with the help of the associate, so we would get exactly what we needed!

  • The Cameleon is a great stroller choice. I'd go with the Cybex Aton or the Maxi-Cosi Preszi. Both will lock in using the Maxi-Cosi Mico adapters.
  • I use mine with the Peg Perego car seat and have no complaints.

Has your DH test driven any of the other strollers? My DH thought I was crazy too until I dragged him to Buy Buy Baby. You can really tell the difference when you see strollers side by side.

  • My DH thought they were ridiculous until he pushed one.  Then he was alllllllll about it, lol.

  • I have and love the cameleon but am due with #2 at the end of the month (also have a 2yr old dd). Now I need a double stroller and am purchasing the donkey.

Some advice, if you hope to have more than 1 child I would trimmed getting the donkey now instead. You can purchase the extension later & in the meantime use the storage basket.

Re: car seat, we've been happy with the graco platinum and the adapter.

  • If you are planning on having 2 children close together then I would side with your husband.  If you are only planning on having one child then it's a great investment.  Anyone I know who has them loves them.  But you might also be able to find a used one in good shape because most people who end up needing a double will sell them.

  • I agree with your husband. You do not need such a expensive stroller. Sorry 1000 bucks for a stroller is insane

How do you know what she "needs?" Bugaboos are very popular in the city where they're the primary source of "transportation" for a baby. I know many suburban moms on here would not think twice about upgrading to an SUV or minivan that costs 30 to 40 times as much as a Bugaboo and I think those oversized gas guzzlers are equally ridiculous.

I logged dozens of miles a week with my Bugaboo. When we bought it, we were still living in the city and only had one car. I didn't want some cheap piece of you know what that was heavy, hard to steer and didn't have the features I wanted like a bassinet option and the reversable handle.

I understand there's a bit of sticker shock but for some people the price tag is totally worth it.

I agree with all of this. For some in larger metropolitan areas, their stroller is their main source of transportation. For people like this, a stroller like the Bugaboo is a lifesaver.

I live in NYC. I am well awaremit them. Her post asked how she can convince her dh she needs it. Chill out lady. My opinion is that nobody needs a 1000 stroller. But hey it's not my money.
  • We have the chameleon and love it. Compared to my friends strollers its amazing how much better it is. The turn radius and ease of use on it is amazing. I will say if you are thinking of two close together you may want to look at the donkey or another double type stroller. I am pregnant with #2 and just not sure what to do. DD will be 3 when the baby arrives so she might be out of it but Im not sure she's ready for the wheel board and Im sure she will want to ride if the baby is riding.

  • Agreed! It's not a need but I lived in NYC and walked everywhere with my bugaboo. Maybe if I lived in the burbs or drove everywhere I would have made a diff choice, but for urban dwellers looking for a good quality stroller, you cant beat bugaboo. Uppa Baby is a close second. 2 years and 2 major cities countless potholes later it's still in great condition! Good resale value too!

Curious, what kind of stroller do you have?

And just for the record, you can easily buy a used Bugaboo for $300-$500 on craigslist, use it for 1-2 years, and then sell it for the same price you paid for it.  I did that once before and will be doing that again with this baby.  Bugaboos are FABULOUS strollers.  I've owned 7 total in the 3.5 years my DD has been around, and it has the best push out of anything I've tried.  Well worth the money, especially considering their high resale value.

  • We love our bugaboo & use it with a cybex aton infant seat {which is also awesome!}. We used the bassinet up until our baby boy started rolling over, & he's go from his back, to super man style in about 0.2 seconds. We weren't too interested in weather or not it could be a double, because we aren't sure when we'll decide to add another child to the family.

City Mini GT, why do you even care?

  • I have the new Cameleon 3 and I wouldn't have anything else. Between NY and NJ it's a must have. Get the Peg Perego. It's slightly heavier than most but its function for its purpose is unmatched. A woman was in buy buy baby while I was registering showing a sales associate a picture of her car from an accident and thanking him for his suggestion for the PegPerego. She said her infant was completely unharmed. And her car looked horrible. That's all I needed to see.

As far as price of the stroller is concerned, use your completion coupon to get 10% off. Its the only coupon you can use for bugaboo products.

Oooookay, you sound kind of psycho here.

The reason why I asked, is because typically the anti-Bugaboo people are pushing a Graco or Chicco stroller, and don't understand why someone would spend more money for a better quality stroller.  If you're pushing a GT, then I would assume you appreciate a good push, better tires, etc.  So, have you ever pushed or played with a Bugaboo, or do you just hate them in theory?  The GT is a really great stroller, but like I said above, I have bought a Bugaboo for $300, used it for over a year, then sold it for $350.  The resale value is amazing, and not everyone pays full retail price for strollers.

I have pushed a bugaboo. I never said it was awful. I just cannot justify a 1000 buck stroller. That's all. Plus I personally would not buy used. Not my thing
