Hello Everyone - my mom is already driving me crazy. I keep telling myself she is just super excited to be a grandma for the first time. But she wants to start planning my baby shower. I don't even know when I want to have it. When is everyone else due in March thinking of having their shower? I am new to the baby world as none of my friends have kids yet, so I am not sure what is normal. Thanks!

I think January is the best time to have one for a March baby. Be lucky your mom is excited. Mine is not and it is very hurtful and depressing.

This will be a mom's 4th grandbaby, 2nd from me. I had my son 15yrs ago (I was a YOUNG mom). She is also super excited and wants to host the shower this time around. DH's family has a very close friend that lives between here and Colorado, she asked that we please have the shower in January while she's here. So, January it is.

I'm due in mid march, and January is the consensus here as well. You don't want it so close to your due date that you are uncomfortable, and I'd definitely want it to be after the holidays so people's schedules would hopefully be a little less hectic!

My mom is exactly the same way. Like you said i think it's because it's her first grandchild. She is wanting to start planning also, I've asked her to wait to see what the sex of the baby is first. We decided January would be best, I wanted December but with Christmas it's a busy month. Also we are having it on a Sunday because people tend to be more free on Sunday's instead of Saturdays. We will be having one probably in early January, like the second. We are going up to my parents for Christmas and my sister and mom are planning one. Seeing as that is where most of our close friends live it only makes sense to have one while we are there. That said, because we are going by plane most of our items will have to be purchased via the internet and sent to us here as we wont be able to take much back with us.

I'm due March 20th, so my mom and best friend are looking at end of January to mid February. I don't want it too early in Jan, since the holidays will have just passed.

You aren't alone. This is our first baby and the first grandchild for both our parents. As of now, I'm not aware that anyone in our family is planning a shower for us.

If someone does plan a shower for us, it would likely be the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve, since that's when we'll be up visiting our family and friends for the holidays.

In general, if you live closer to the host of the shower, I think January is a good time.

This!! My sister is planning on throwing my shower, but as she lives a state away from me, my MIL is going to help her. Tentatively planning on Jan 19th. It's enough after the holidays to give everyone a break, and I'll be 33 weeks. I don't think I'd want it much later than that just in case.

My mom is planning mine at the very beginning of Feb. January is a crazy month for us because two of my sisters have birthdays, and also it's right after the holidays when everyone's getting back into the swing of it all. So we're doing it after Jan, but before valentines day. Probably the first week in Feb

Im due late march I think Il have the shower on December or January but I have to start the registry before Christmas so I can give the list to everyone doing their Christmas shopping. This is my first too! Congrats! I know how you feel!

I live 4 hours away from my parents and my mom is wanting to do a baby shower and my MIL who lives in the same town as we do is also wanting to throw one. I'm thinking both will be in January. I'm due March 13th but this is my first and everyone has told me to be prepared to possibly go over. I think January will be a good time so I'm not so close to the end that I'm crazy uncomfortable (especially traveling 4 hours away to go to the one with my mom) and that maybe I'll have more energy and be ready to set everything up.

They say it is best to give yourself one to two solid months before the due date to have your shower. So that way you have the time to get everything sorted, returned if needed, and set up.

I am opting for February 3. (I am due March 29) That gives me time to get everything done and prepared that I would want to make sure gets done. But also enough time for my guests to get over the holiday dumps. January is a rough enough time financially being right after the holidays, but there are also several birthdays that I need to schedule around.

But then, some people plan to have theirs several months in advance. What it comes down to are the experiences that you want to have at your shower. The games, like the string around the belly thing, etc that are better when there is a fully rounded baby belly. Some factors that may need to be taken into consideration would be the time of year, and where you live as far as venue, the number of expected attendants, theme, food, the lives of the expected attendants, etc.

I am looking into doing like what my cousin did and renting out a banquet room at a hotel so my mixed family (as a child of a bitter divorce) and friends can all be on neutral grounds and ensure that there will be enough parking. So, I have to really start looking into that a bit more seriously to make sure I get what I want booked and guaranteed.

Wow...my MIL has decided she is throwing the baby shower. And she has chosen October 20th to do it! Im not sure how I feel about it being so soon. We found out 2 days ago that its almost definetly a girl. But I still have to go for a 20 week ultrasound to make sure. And it is scheduled for 4 days before the shower. So if the first result was wrong then Im gonna be in trouble come shower day. But the 20th is pretty much set in stone. And Im honestly pretty excited...first girl!
