If you're having another baby (eventually)

What all are you packing away?

I'm starting to pack up LO's newborn clothes, the smaller blankets, stuff like that. We've outgrown the 4oz bottles and the level 1 nipples and I was thinking about packing the bottles away to save as well. I washed and boiled all the pieces, and stored them back in the box they came in. Do you think its sanitary enough to pack them away for a year or two and bring them out again for the next baby or should I just get rid of them?

If you cleaned and dried them, I don't see why they would be bad...

I am keeping all of LO's stuff (which is not a  lot) just in case we have another girl. I will put the clothes on a space bag. The gear will go in our storage unit - I will wrap it in thick plastic and put the fabric in space bags to prevent possible rodent problems - we had an encounter in our old garage... yuck!

Thats what I'm looking at doing as well. I kept all the boxes from the bottles and the activity gym, rock N play, that stuff so when we're finished I can repack them and seal the boxes. I'm also going to plastic wrap them before they go in storage just in case of weather issues. The only thing I can't pack back away is the swing.

For clothes I'm going to use the space saver bags also, and I'm going to lay them flat in a plastic tub from walmart. I'm only saving the pieces that I really love though. We got a LOT of hand me downs from a mom friend of mine that had twins last year and she passed most their clothes to us, and I'm going to pass a lot of them on. My goal is to keep what I love, and only fill one tub in the first year. =)

  • With DD I pack all of her clothes in bins same with bottles.  I used all of the bottles again but purchased new nipples.  According to the manufacturers instructions they should be replaced every three months so did not see the point of keeping them.  I did not keep any of the boxes so I stored everything in bins and washed and boiled everything when I had DS.

  • Actually just found out I'm pregnant again so until we find out what we're having just keeping DS2's clothes in his dresser. He will be about 11 months old when this LO arrives so with all the clothes we got from relatives for him all sizes newborn-12 months fit into the whole dresser. If we find out this one is a girl then we will be getting another dresser for her. As far as the bottles I will just be sanitizing the smaller ones and storing them on the top shelf until LO arrives.

  • I have heard that wood roaches like to eat cardboard, so if you're storing things in their original boxes, you might also want to wrap them up in large plastic bags with a piece of cedar or something to keep the buggies away.

Thanks! I'm okay. Was shocked to find out. We weren't planning on trying til J was at least 6 months but one time forgetting protection and here we are. The only thing I'm afraid of is that I had a c-section so worried about the incision rupturing. Go to the dr. Oct. 4th for my 1st appt so will see what they say then.

  • So far I've packed away all her newborn clothes and just starting to pack away her 0-3 month clothing. I'm only saving my favorite pieces and clothing that is still in great shape. For bottles we use the Playtex drop ins. I plan to dump the nipples and just buy new ones for baby #2, but I will save the actual bottle.

My friend had a C and got pregnant with her second when her first was 5 months, had another C, and got pregnant again when her second was 9 months.  She did not have any issues with her incisions. Congrats

  • I'm keeping any 'favorite' clothing and any gender neutral clothing. Theres no telling whether the next will be a boy or girl and I'd hate to save a ton of boy clothes and end up with a girl. However, in saying that, we're selling all the boy clothes so we're making money.
  • with ds#1 we put clothes/blankets... in those airtight bags - so far so good

kept the bottles/parts but get new nipples - just put them in large plastic containers on the top shelf of the pantry that i can only reach by stepstool

we just but the larger items in our basement cover and then just washed everything and had no problems (our basement doesnt bugs if any)

  • This is a great post!  I was just wondering the same thing the other day.  Where do you get the space bags?  I also threw out the nipples like a PP as I would rather play it safe and not have them crack or become bad while in storage.

I bought the space saver bags at walmart in the travel section. Target also sells them. They sell small ones that you roll the air out of and bigger ones that you vacuum the air out of. =)
