goes to me! LO is 6 months. We are doing BLW. I offered him spaghetti for dinner and he choked. I am talking really choking... mouth wide open and not getting air. He is okay now but it was scary. I think I may be moving to purees! I even read the BLW book.
Re: Bad parent of the day award...
I was thinking this same thing... As for giving a 6mo spaghetti instead of a puree, yea, just a bad idea!! Purees are perfectly fine - put the spaghetti in a blender, but even at 9mo I wouldn't consider DS ready for actual spaghetti yet...
BLW is short for Baby Led Weaning. I have heard of giving them large pieces of food when working with BLW but not spaghetti. It could be part of the practice...I'm not sure.
OP I'm glad your LO is okay.
My daughter had spaghetti when she was 6 months. She's also had scrambled eggs, toast, pancakes, steamed carrot sticks, shredded chicken, and all sorts of other fun stuff (like babagnoush, yum). Tonight she had corn bread, BBQ pulled pork, and carrots just like everyone else. I do feed her purees, too, so I can't say I BLW. I think people should just feed their babies however they feel comfortable. And OP, you are not a bad parent! These things happen. Just expressing your concern over the situation leds me to believe you are a good mom!
