Can't put LO down to sleep!

My DD HATES being put down to sleep....it takes us anywhere from 45 min-2 hours at night for her to get to sleep. We start bedtime w/ her bottle....she usually falls asleep from that-i do the limp arm test so I know she is out. I then swaddle her and she ALWAYS wakes up and then acts wide awake! Paci doesn't work....she sucks for a bit and then spits it out. We have white noise and everything. I just don't see how she can go from being totally tired to up and no signs of being tired so fast? How do you all do it? I thought about swaddling while we feed her her bottle, but I think it might piss her off not being able to move.....

Re: Can't put LO down to sleep!

  • We are having the same problem, I don't have any advice but I just want you to know you're not alone. Last night we started our night time ritual to put him down at 10 and he didn't go to bed til 3:30.

  • Try swaddling her before she falls asleep. We give DS about an ounce of his bottle, change his diaper, swaddle him, then finish the bottle. By the end he's either asleep or struggling to stay awake. At that point we can just lay him right down.

  • Try swaddling after she eats, before she falls asleep. Lo is usually drowsy after a feeding, so I guickly burp him and swaddle him. He's usually out in like, 5 minutes.

  • I would swaddle before she falls asleep for sure, even if it meant she had to eat swaddled.

  • Swaddle before you feed. I'll admit I was nervous to do this because I personally wouldn't want to eat all confined. But my DS was up, diaper changed, swaddled, fed, and back asleep in his crib in the middle of the night within a 45 min time period!! Which seriously beats the 2 hrs I spent up the night before. Hope it works for you!!

  • I agree with everyone else.  Swaddle before feeding.  In fact, feed him last, burp and cuddle.  If my little one gets fussy after that (and that isn't common), I either rock her in the rocking chair or put her in the swing.  Knocks her right out.  Good luck to you!

  • I am with everyone else. I BF and supplement with formula. So I change DD diaper put her in her pj's and then BF her. When I am done with that I swaddle her and then feed her the formula. Then we snuggle/rock for a little while until she is totally out and lay her down. Most nights she is sleeping no more than 10mins after finishing the bottle. Good luck!

  • Mine is 7.weeks for the past week or so has been falling asleep around 730 but wakes up after 30 min it takes about 12.hours for him to go back to sleep. He use to go without a problem but we were out of town then he got a cold so I hope it passes. I agree with others....try swaddling before and let us know how it goes!
