April 2012 Moms

How's your baby doing?

I'd love to hear how everyone's LOs are doing. Are they sleeping well or terrible? Have you started solids yet or are you waiting? Are they wearing the clothes size for their age, under or over? What's the latest cuteness that your LO has discovered/performed? Do they have the same amount of hair as they did at birth, more or less? Anything else I'm missing, throw it in! Heck, bonus points for any PIPs unless your too scared to PIP right now.

Re: How's your baby doing?

  • Good post!

I'll start!  DD is still sleeping mediocre.  Not as good as she was 2 months ago, but I am blaming on 4 mo wakeful still and teething.  Usually 3 times a night right now.  Sometimes less and I love those nights!

No solids yet, I plan on waiting until 6 months or whenever she can sit up unsupported, whichever comes first...and I want to do BLW.

DD always has cuteness going on. It always makes me laugh how much she talks. ALL THE TIME.  And her big smile as soon as I get home for the day, makes my heart melt!

As far as hair goes...same amount, if not less.  My mom said I was bald till I was at least 1! I fully expect DD to be the same.  Thats what freaking adorable headbands were made for.

I dont have a pic handy that I havent used in the past couple days.  Or I would post one!

OOHHH ETA: She is still in 0-3 month and some 3-6. She's a little peanut!

  • I wanted to tell you that you are awesome.  For obvious reasons I will not PIP.

She's doing well. Turns 6 months tomorrow. I am taking the day off. I was a crazy woman and scheduled their well checks at 8 am.  Yeah, two getting shots tomorrow.  We are starting to think about dabbling in purees. She plays with the spoon so we shall see how it goes.

She's a tiny girl and if there is nothing that is needed for length (like onesies or footies) she's in 3-6 months from Gymbo and Janie and Jack, all others 6-9 months. If it is footies than she's getting ready for 9-12 months. She's just starting to fit some 3-6 month pants in the waist but they are too short. I have a feeling she's going to be in 6-9 and 9-12 shortly. We'll see how big she is tomorrow. I doubt she's close to 14 lbs and I would guess maybe 28.5".  She's smaller than DS was at that age and he was 16.5 lbs and 29.5".

She has discovered her talking voice and her loudness. It's quite cute. She also rolls to whatever she wants. She's been trying to army crawl and she's not there yet.

Her hair is finally starting to grow back in. She lost about 75% of it.

    Thanks for asking.

BTW, I told you that you are one of my favs and I'm glad to see you around still.

Sorry no paragraphs, bumping from my phone.
I once had a picture until the trolls showed up.

  • Noah is HUGE, at his 4 month appointment he was 20 lbs 2 oz.....I am sure he is at least 22-23 lbs now and he is 27 1/2 inches long.

He sleeps amazing from 8 ish- 6ish, eats and then back to sleep until 8 ish.

He just moved up to 9-12 month clothes this week.

He eats a couple tablespoons of cereal every night but that is as much as we have done for solids really, I plan on starting sweet potatoes this weekend.

He is almost sitting on his own....he usually gets too excited about his toys and tips over from shaking his hands too much lol.  And he just started real laughs.

He still refuses to roll but he will try to scoot forward when he is on his tummy.

He lost his hair he had at birth but now it is back to where it was when he was born but we still don't know what color it is, in some lights it looks brown but the sides look blonde and some lights it has a reddish look so we have no clue.

This is him "sitting" today (he has something behind him to help a little

  • Are they sleeping well or terrible? Hm, decently I guess. I've just given up hope of STTN and come to accept how things are. Since committing to that mindset, I've convinced myself I'm happy with our sleep situation in a way. He sleeps 4 hour stretches typically, so he wakes up about 3x per night.

Have you started solids yet or are you waiting? He gets a bit every few days at random, but we'll "officially" start and be more scheduled with it in a few more weeks. I've let him taste a few things, but he isn't full on eating much in terms of solids yet.

Are they wearing the clothes size for their age, under or over? He's 18 lbs, but we're just transitioning in to 6-9 now (and stuff like Carters sleepers are just hanging off his arms and legs).

What's the latest cuteness that your LO has discovered/performed? He is pretty good at sitting unassisted and gets sooo proud of himself when he just sits there and waves toys all over the place.

Do they have the same amount of hair as they did at birth, more or less? A bit more on top but I feel like it's starting to thin out on the sides. I might be imagining that.

Bonus PIP: First time on the park swing on Sunday!

  • DS2 is sleeping like crap. Only up once or twice a night, but up for an hour + each time and I have no idea why. Soooooooooo tired. He is still napping in the swing and I really want to start working on that, but I can't until after we get his night sleep under control.

No solids. My pedi is pretty strict on the waiting until 6 months thing, plus solids are kind of a PITA and I can't imagine trying to fit it into our current schedule. I let him gnaw on certain things that I am eating like bread, apple slices, banana, whatever, but that's it.

He is crawling everywhere which I think is crazy - way too early and I am not ready for it. He commandos across the room in 2 seconds flat, and is now getting up on hands and knees and rocking back and forth, But he still can't sit or effectively roll belly to back.

A little less hair than when he was born, but it is filling in more. HIs eyebrows are suddenly really dark and super straight. He makes velociraptor sounds all day at the top of his lungs. When I walk back from dropping DS1 at school, and DS2 is in the Bjorn facing out, everyone we pass laughs at him because he screeches so loudly at everyone.

  • DS just turned 20 weeks!  He has learned to roll over both ways.  He loves sleeping on his tummy.  He doesn't STTN yet but he wakes up once or twice for MOTN.

He loves his daddy.  He's always giving him big smiles. He laughs when I give him tickle bombs because he's totally ticklish.  I can't stop doing it.

We're waiting 6 months to start BLW.

     Latest pic is in siggy.

  • Sleeping- ever since we transitioned to the crib over a week ago she wakes up a lot. From every hour to a couple times a night. It's getting exhausting. I feel like I have a newborn again

Solids- she has tried oatmeal, banana and avocado. We aren't giving it to her but on the weekends. We haven't figured out a schedule to juggle weekdays and daycare.

Clothes- some 9 months, some 6 months

Cutest thing lately- learning how to do raspberries

Hair- it keeps getting longer!  I started doing Pebbles Flinstone hair do and I love it! She's a really good sport about it too.

  • Despite battling a never ending cold and only sleeping for 3 hours at a time, I can honestly say that Micah is the most amazing person in the entire world and the reason I get up every day. It's overwhelming how much I love that little boy. And to think that a year ago, I had my hopes up that he'd be a little girl that I could dress up. Worse yet, that I felt SAD to find out he was a boy. He's amazing.

We've started BLW, and it's going well. It's a challenge for th grandparents to accept, and they don't understand how it works, so they keep trying to shove food in his mouth. There's clearly a learning curve for everyone. We'll get there.

LO talks all day long, and it melts my heart each time. It cracks me up when he talks with his entire fist in his mouth, because he sounds like a ventroloquist. He can roll on his tummy but usually gets stuck. He can sit for about 30 seconds without falling over. He cannot stand still without trying to jump the entire time. I love it.

He's under the 20% for weight now, but wearing 6-9 month clothes at 6 months old. The clothes say 15-18 pounds, and he's 15 pounds, so that makes me feel like he's not THAT tiny. The doctor said he's fine. He had a ton of hair at birth, then lost most of it (awkward stage), and now he's growing it back. It's super fluffy and sticks straight out. I love it. I can't PIP because I'm still at work procrasting my hour long drive back home.

  • Love it! C is waking up once in the MOTN for a feeding.  She isn?t fully awake, but still eats a full ?serving? so I keep it up.  We haven?t started solids yet  - I?m planning on waiting until closer to 6 months.  Yes, she watches what we eat and yea, she grabs at things, but I?m not convinced she?s READY yet.  She loves to raspberry.  She tugs at her own hair and puts knots in it.  She?s a smiling fool, and I?m smitten over her.  She learned to roll from belly to back last weekend when we were visiting with another baby so now she rolls across the floor.  She?s mostly on track with clothes, but can fit in some 6-9 month stuff. Here?s a recent pic ? a little blurry from my cell phone.

  • I'll play!

Mia sleeps pretty well during the night.  She only wakes up once to feed but it is only for about 10 minutes and then she falls back out again.  We have tried just putting the pacifier back in but she screams bloody murder so she isn't ready yet to ditch that feeding.  During the day is another story though.  She sucks at sleeping during the day.  The most she will sleep is 40 minutes at a time and that is if I am lucky.  Plus, she screams a lot when she is tired in the day.

Right now she is wearing 9-12 months clothes.  She is a glubber mcchubber.

Lately, she has become so much more aware of everything.  Whenever she sees her brother playing, she cracks up laughing and wants to play with him so badly.  When I put her on the floor, she tried with all her might to crawl but just can't quite get it yet but I know its on the horizon.  She rolls all over the living room though.

She has a tiny bit more hair, not too much though.  It took my son a long time to have any hair as well.

Here is a pic from the other day..

  • ooh what a nice idea! love it!

Are they sleeping well or terrible? Meh like funkeymonkey I have just sort of accepted things. She has never sttn ever and I don't think she'll be randomly starting any time soon. She sleeps 5 hours usually then wakes up each 3 hours or so. I am "happy" with that...

Have you started solids yet or are you waiting? nothing yet, I finished the BLW book so plan to wait until 6 months or maybe a bit before, depending. I'm excited to start though also dreading the extra work, mess and disgusting poopies.

Are they wearing the clothes size for their age, under or over? She is in mostly 3-6 months, though the sleepers are getting a bit snug in length. She was 14lbs 2 at her four month check and 25.5 inches.

What's the latest cuteness that your LO has discovered/performed? She has started to get up on hands and knees and "hump" back and forth. when she tries to move forwards she falls on her face so I think crawling is a ways away yet. Also she can sit up now without falling over immediately. She still falls over pretty quickly though.

Do they have the same amount of hair as they did at birth, more or less? I'd say same. She doesn't have a lot of hair she has "old man" hair, a strip of it all around her head and very little on top, lol

  • Great post, Steel!

    My LO is doing well.

STTN: Nope! Still getting up and taking 1-2 MOTN feedings. Hoping to night wean at some point if she doesn't drop them on her own, but I won't worry about until closer to 6-8 months.

Milestones: Rolling both ways proficiently, woo-hoo! Not sitting up on her own or able to stand. I get a little stressed when I see other April babies who can do that. She will in her own time, I'm sure.

Measurements: At her 5 month appointment, she was 14 lb 15.5 oz and 25" long. She is in 3-6 clothes and I sized her up to size 3 diapers with our latest bulk box. I'm thinking about moving to 6-9 clothes pretty soon. I'm getting bored with her 3-6 wardrobe!

Solids: Tried rice cereal on Saturday and it was an epic fail. We'll try again next weekend. We'll probably wait on purees until 6 months.

Also, Steel, when you profess your love for Micah, it makes me feel all fuzzy. Cause I totally understand how that feels. It's kind of amazing being a mom, isn't it?  Big Smile

  • Owen sleeps like absolute crap. I'm working on stretching out the overnight feeds a bit, but he's still up a lot.

Clothes, he still fits into a lot of 03/3 month stuff! 36 is starting to fit well, though some is still too long.

His hair is ridiculous. The top is getting so long, but the sides mostly fell out and are regrowing so he sort of looks like he's wearing a toupee.

No solids yet. I have no desire to hop on that train yet. He's still quote young though, so it's all good. I need to decide if we'll do BLW or purees.

  • Are they sleeping well or terrible? Really well, goes right to sleep around 7:15pm, and sleeps until about 6am on average and then wants to eat.  I'll take it.

Have you started solids yet or are you waiting?  Starting any time now, he is about 5.5 months old and appearing to be ready.  We have given him watermelon in a mesh feeder but that's about it, he liked it.

Are they wearing the clothes size for their age, under or over? True to size for now, he seems to be skinny, I think he is about 15lbs.  Not sure how since he is a really good eater.

What's the latest cuteness that your LO has discovered/performed? He is a rolling fool, he can definitely get around as he rolls and flips himself around, so cute to watch.  He kinda shouts a little while he does it too and it's adorable.

Do they have the same amount of hair as they did at birth, more or less? More now, the sides have filled in and he has a nice amount of brown hair on top.

    Too lazy to PIP today.

  • Macy sleeps through the night, every night since about 3 months. She has woken up once so far due to a super loud thunderstorm. She sleeps from about 910 to 67 AM.

She has been on cereal since 4 months and started just green veggies so far. She loves the peas and hates the green beans.

She is a peanut, was only 12.5 lbs at 4 months. I think she's on the 15th percentile. The pedi was worried that her percentile went down but she is like the happiest kid I have ever seen, and sttn so I'm not too worried. She can still wear 3 month clothes but the 6 month fit her better.

It's funny when she was first born she had all this dark hair. And now all her hair is blonde and she's getting a lot of it. I have super thick hair so I hope she doesn't take after me in that respect!

  • This is fun!

He used to sleep through the night (between 5 and 8 hours), but Hurricane Isaac and then teething threw a wrench in that and he now wakes anywhere from 2 to 6 times a night.  Sad

We started him on rice cereal a few weeks ago for some mild reflux.  That's all he has had so far.

He's 5 months old and is wearing 3-6 month clothing pretty much across the board.

Sticking his tongue out for photos.

He has a little bit more hair.  It was dark brown at birth, started thinning out and then came back in dark blonde.

  • Are they sleeping well or terrible? Most would consider our nights terrible but I'm pretty happy whith our progress. He's usually up every 2-3 hours, once in a while we will get a 4-6 hour stretch but teething ruined that. I'm just happy he is in his crin, no joke I literally spent the first 3.5 months sleeping in a recliner with him, for the next three weeks I was able to get him in the pnp for about half the night. He is now in his crib and I am sleeping with DH again, this is fantastic for me!

Have you started solids yet or are you waiting? We plan on starting this weekend with rice cereal, I plan to do a modified version of BLW.

Are they wearing the clothes size for their age, under or over? For the most part he is in 3-6. I've put the odd onesie on him that was 9months but only because his cloth diapers make him extra long in the croth yesterday I actually had him a shirt that said 8-10 lbs but obviously that was a big make!

What's the latest cuteness that your LO has discovered/performed? Daniel did not roll belly to back until he was 4.5 months and it was another two weeks before he rolled back to belly. It seems though once he figured out he can move there is no stopping him. He spends all day up on all fours trying to crawl and has mastered backwards very well, forward usually involves frustration and a faceplant though :p he can go from crawling to sitting and vice versa quite well and has pretty much mastered sitting. He popped his first tooth the day he turned 5 months and the second one last Friday. My absolute favourite thing he does though is he loves to kiss, he's a smack on the lips kinda guy and there is usually tongue (ok so I don't love the tongue but kisses melt my heart!)

Do they have the same amount of hair as they did at birth, more or less? He has more, I'm pretty sure we are going to have to cut it soon, he has sideburns down to his chin!

  • aggieamber - I hope your 4month wakeful ends soon! And the talking is one of the best things right now for sure!

kkfeb - That means a lot. I respect you a lot, so I really appreciate that compliment. I hope the shots go well. That's got to be rough! I still can't get over how long your LO is! Micah only grew an inch between 4 and 6 months, so he's still hanging out at 26.6". He's a midget compared to your little girl!

beth - Love those cheeks! Such a cutie you have there! I love the tongue in your siggy pic!

funkymonkey - I know exactly what you mean with STTN. And those park pictures are adorable! I absolutely love your new(?) siggy pic!!!

devonpow - Ugh. I'm sorry your dealing with those sleep issues. I don't miss those first 2 months where waking up took an hour+ to get back down. And I'm still amazed at your little scooter! Micah still screams on his belly!

luv2eatcherries - That's a lot of great progress. Your siggy is adorable. Yay for giggling ticklish babies!

katie - I'm also sorry that you're dealing with the newborn sleep. That's rough. I also know what you mean with figuring out a schedule to fit in feedings. It seems so simple, yet requires so much advanced planning! Micah doesn't do raspberries, and I wish he did. I think they're adorable!

sharrison - Look at your little cutie! What a doll she is! Babies at this age will put anything in their mouths, so I agree that just because she's watching you and reaching for things doesn't mean that she's ready to eat quite yet.

tinnalee - That walker looks amazing! We keep thinking about getting one, but I'm afraid he'll run in to all of the crap we have around the house still. I bet it's a lot of fun to see her interact with her brother.

laurack - I would love to go back to the 5 hour initial stretch. We lost it right around when I went back to work (of course). I miss that! I know what you mean by being happy with that. It's one of the only times I get to be with DS during the week, so I guess I'll take it every 3 hours at night. I can't believe how close she is to crawling! And those pictures are absolutely beautiful!

ruby - Don't stress about sitting up. Micah can only sit for very brief periods of time at 6 months old, and his doctor is fine with that. And yes, being a mom is more than I ever imagined it.

raynes - Sorry that you're having so many problems with sleep. I can't believe he still fits in 0-3 month stuff! And we had the opposite hair problem. He looked like grandpa munster with long hair above his ears but bald on top! And good luck with however you decide to introduce solids!

japril - Your siggy pic absolutely cracks me up! Those cheeks are hilarious! I love it!

musiclover - I'm jealous (not hateful) of your sleep! Rolling and shouting are my favorite things!

mumegs - I'm also jealous of your sleep! It's crazy how much their hair can change in such a short time. I also think your siggy pic is beautiful!

jenni - I hope your sleep schedule starts to improve soon! I hope the cereal is helping his reflux. Micah hasn't figured out that his tongue can leave his mouth, so I would crack up if he started sticking his tongue out!

softskate - Another cutie! LOL on superman. Micah does that sometimes, too. Good luck with the new cereal. I hope it's going well!

amber&tommy - It still cracks me up when I find Micah's socks wet from him sucking on them. It's too cute to see babies catch their feet! I can only imagine his giggle with the dog though! Ahh!

sherry&jeff - I know what you mean with the sleep thing.People ask how he sleeps and then try to give advice on how to "fix" it. No one realizes that I'm okay with it. I'm glad that your sleep has improved so much over time! Good luck with cereal this weekend! That's some impressive crawling progress, too! And teeth! Holy cow, he's growing up too fast! Love the pics, too!

  • Are they sleeping well or terrible? He was STTN until a month ago and now he's waking up once or twice; eventually I'll put him in bed with me. I'm going to start weaning him off that because I'm not sure if it's helping or hurting.

Have you started solids yet or are you waiting? We're going to wait until he's 6 months or so. He doesn't seem to have any interest at all.

Are they wearing the clothes size for their age, under or over? Weighing in at almost 23 lb and 27 inches at his 4 month appt, he's in 6-9 month and some 9-12. My dr. called him a "giant baby" today.

What's the latest cuteness that your LO has discovered/performed? He gets a pretty big kick out of his big sister and today I got him an exersaucer which he seems to enjoy.

Do they have the same amount of hair as they did at birth, more or less? A little less, except for a really dark patch at the nape of his neck. And he's got some really long strands at the top.

In the last few days he's also started spitting up several times a day. I'm not sure why, unless he's developed an allergy or something.

  • Sleep: still pretty unpredictible.  Bedtime is pretty good, will go down btw 8-8:30 consistently.  Some nights he'll STTN, some nights he's up around 12/1 and just needs to be settled, some nights he's up around 2 to eat, some nights he's up at 12 AND 2.  Napping is also kind of a crapshoot.  Some days he'll take 3-4hr naps, others he'll just take catnaps.  I wish he'd just settle on something so it could be more predictible.... but oh well.  I've gotten to the point that I just accept it and try not to be crabby the nights he's up twice.

Solids: just started some rice cereal.  He's not sure what to think about it yet... but seems to be starting to get the hang of it.  Will probably wait until 6mo to start veggies and fruits

Clothes: still doing some 3mo stuff and some 3-6, a few 6-9.  He's got such tiny little hips that the bigger pants just hang!  But he's long, so he's stretching the limits on some of the onsies and some of his pants are more like capris!  He's riding the low end of the weight curve, but growing on track.

Cuteness: still working on sitting up on his own.  Not quite there yet.  Has been laughing a ton lately.  I think he just discovered that he can pronate/supinate his arm because he'll wave it around and turn it over and look so amazed by it.  Has discovered that he likes to pet the dog and laughs if the dog gets his nose close to his face and/or licks him.

Hair: about the same.  His is filling in a bit more as there were patches of baldness.

  • Are they sleeping well or terrible?

She sleeps very well at night with the odd night that she just decides it is for losers.  Monday night she woke up at 1am and 4am. WTF?   Naps are very hit or miss.  She usually takes a very good morning nap but the rest of the day is up in the air.  If she doesn't nap, she is grumpy.

Have you started solids yet or are you waiting?

I'm lazy.  I'm waiting.  EBF is easy.

Are they wearing the clothes size for their age, under or over?

She was wearing her size clothes until we had to accomodate the pavlik.  She tends to move up a size a month or so early.  She wears a Carter's 6-9 onesie under the harness and then a Carter's 9-12 short or long sleeve onesie over the harness.  6-12 months socks to protect her little feet.  She got sores on her calves after a day.

What's the latest cuteness that your LO has discovered/performed?

She loves to 'fly' around the house and laughs like a mad woman!  She had started to try to roll back to belly but I think that will be more difficult now.  She can kind of tripod but the long torso-giant head combo takes her out every time!

Do they have the same amount of hair as they did at birth, more or less?

She has much less hair than when she was born.  It is growing back in very blond.
