Hello and question to Home daycare moms (or any of you) from a long lost Sept mommy

Hello Ladies,

I have not been on here since I went back to work last November, but when I had this question I figured who else could I turn to..?  Oh the ladies on the Bump will know exactly what to do!

My little man with be 1 on Monday so I have been transitioning him to milk.  He has been loving it with no complications.

My question is for kids at in home daycare....Now that he is on milk how should I be handling his food.  Up until now we would provide a can of powdered formula as needed and when we started him on baby food I would send him with a weeks worth of food (fruits and vegies) plus some extra as snacks.  Should I be packing him a lunch everyday?  He is a great eater and will eat just about anything (baby food or solid adult food!) WDYD????

Also any trick on getting him to use a sippy cup.  I have bought 3-4 different types and he just won't drink out of them? Or suggest your sippy cup!

 Thanks Ladies!

  • I provide in-home care for a toddler. When she transitioned off of formula, her mom sent bottles/sippies already filled and let me know when to offer them. When the LO was on baby food, her mom provided all of her food, but when she was fully on table food I started giving her the same breakfast/lunch that my girls are eating  and her mom just pays a little extra per week.

As for sippies, DD2 started off great with the Munchkin soft spouts. DD1 we went through several before she finally liked the Nuk Learner Cup.

  • K goes to an in-home daycare once a week.  I just pack what she will need for that day.  A sippy cup of milk, breakfast and lunch.  Daycare provides snacks for her.  I think this is what the majority of fulltime mothers do as well.  As infants you could leave a can of formula for the week but i dont think most inhome daycares have the refrigerator storage for a weeks worth of meals for all the kids.

As far as sippy cups go K likes any hard spout for her milk and prefers the soft spout for water.

  • I would ask your DCP about the food and drinks.  My DCP provides WCM and all food once they are off formula/BM and purees.

My LO likes these nuby ones with the soft spout.

He also has these straw cups that he does really well with.

He did not do with with the staws that went straight up and down.  The angled was better.  He does still tip the cup.

  • Thanks Ladies! I meant to talk to the DCP this morning, but was running late and was more concerned with being on time.  It wasn't until I was in work and was thinking about what we would have for dinner that made me think about what to give him for lunch now.  She does have 3 girls of her own that are home so she does cook lunch.

Thanks for the cup suggestions! I will have to check them out! I don't want him to be that 2 yr old with a bottle hanging out of his mouth!

  • Ask your DCP if they provide meals. My DD also turns 1 on Monday.  We are doing 1/2 WCM mixed with formula starting on Tuesday.  We will do that for a week.  I would just keep trying the sippy cup.  We have used at least 4 different kinds too. The Gerber brand work best for her.  She gets a sippy with formula at each meal and snacks.  She has only been getting one bottle during the day for the last 2 weeks.
