TTC after 35

This weeks sucks and it's only Monday! (NIFR)

We went for lab work, urine test and such for our IVF cycle early next year.  It has to be done yearly, and by 2013 it will all be out of date.  Wanted to do that part early, so we can fix any problems now.  That was the easy  part of yesterday.

Then, MIL called.  Her roommate (her brother) didn't pay his half of the rent.  She talked to the property manager and they are going to be served with a 5 day notice today.  Anyone know exactly what this means?  She thinks that she will have to move within 5 days?  We spent my entire day off shopping for condos and houses to rent.  So much for my day off.....feel like I never even had a day off.  If we cann't find her a place to live, then she might end up living here-which neither of us want.  For once I am glad to go to work, and leave DH-who took day off-to shop for housing with his mother!!

TTC since 10/09 Me-43 DH-44 RE and testing 10/10-11/10, Recommending IVF 1/11 New RE AMA and DOR-DH low motility IVF #1.1 cancelled 3/11 due to poor response IVF #1.2 May 2011, one perfect 8-cell embryo, 3dt-BFN, IVF #2.1 Converted to IUI d/t poor response. New RE 9/2011. IVF 2.2 completed using HGH,EPP,DHEA, Q-10 and accupuncture. Transferred one 8-cell, grade one embryo on 10/19. BFP 10/31/11 Chemical pregancy on 11/2/11. Started stims for IVF #3, our final try, on 12-2-11. ET on 12/18. Transferred 3 Grade A embryos-BFFN Planning DE IVF, late March/early April- Donors ER expected to be 4/2-4/4. PAIF/SAIF welcome

I don't mean to sound harsh, but aren't your MIL and UIL adults? Why are you  and DH tasked with finding MIL a new place? Is she not a grown-up? How did she raise a child? Children aren't supposed to have to deal with non-functioning parents until the parents have aged enough/are so sick that they can't take care of themselves...

Oh how I wish this were true!  :)   I feel your pain happywife.  Good luck. I hope the solution presents itself soon.

  • If she wants to stay in her current place, I would think that she could talk to the mgmt company.  If she is able to make the payment to get her account current, I can't imagine she would have to leave. The property company doesn't want to go through the expense of finding new renters, cleaning/painting/etc the new place, etc. Of course, there is a larger problem with whether her brother can make the payment (this month and into the future).

Good luck to you and your husband.  Helping out parents can definitely be stressful.

  • 5 days seems like a very short amount of time to make her move out.  Are you sure it's not 5 days to get account up to date or else there will be a fine and then possibly an eviction notice?
Me 39 & suspected PCOS, DH 42. Went off BCP when we got married in 11/11, seriously TTC since 3/12.  Six cycles of clomid = BFNs.  Suspected endometriosis & HSG showed both tubes blocked.  Sept 2013 IVF 5D transfer of two perfect embryos = BFN.  Started acupuncture and taking time off to drop some pounds & get healthier before FET in April 2014.

Must be very sunny in your world Daniele....

Happywife-- usually a 5 day notice to quit is a 5 day notice before the landlord can start the eviction process. It's a court process where I live but I know state laws vary widely on tenant evictions. Are you trying to find MIL an apt by herself? I hope you can find something so she doesn't have to move in with you. My dad's mom lived with us when I was a teenager as she didn't have enough money to live on her own, plus she was very dependent on my dad to take care of things for her. It is really had to have someone else living in your house.

Yes, she is an adult.  However, she is recently divorced after having her husband take care of her for 30 years.  She has no credit, no money and unrealistic expectations about what she can affford.  We are only helping because we are trying to find her adequate housing so we don't end up with her living with us.  Unfortunately, we have the space....which is supposed to be for children, not MIL.

She talked to the property manager.  She has to come up with $1600/mo to stay, and she can only afford half that.  Looking for a new place in the $1100-$1200 range.

  • I really hope you are able to figure something out.  Dh's dad lives with us...he has Parkinson's...dh took him in when he was first diagnosed (before we met) and has lived with him ever since.  I thought I knew what I was getting into but over time it has become more and more difficult to put up with him.  He is able to take care of himself and could live by himself in an apartment but he won't take the initiative to move out and dh doesn't have the heart to bring up the subject.  Such a tough situation. TTTC has already been stressful enough but having him live with us almost sends me over the edge some days.

  • Sorry to hear you are having a stressful week and I hope that you are able to help you MIL find something soon and that she doesn't have to move in with you and your husband. Hope that by now it's going a bit better.
