Suggestions on sound machine or app?

Hi, my 13 month old is not the best sleeper. He's always been a light sleeper and we had a hard time sleep training. I found that he sleeps better with the sound of the AC. It muffles any noise we make. it is good white noise for him. Now that the nights have been cooler I just run it on fan mode. I don't know what to do when it'll be too cold to run the the AC even just fan mode.  I've tried having him sleep without any white noise during naps and I find that even the dog barking will wake him up. Any suggestions? TIA.

  • i use homedics sound machine. it has several different sound choices and you can either put a timer on it or not. my ds likes the rainforest birds and is kept on all night and during naps. he sleeps sooo much better with a little background noise!

  • Both girls have the Homedics Sound Spa Lullaby.  It has a light mobile, plays 3 songs and 3 white noise sounds. Its @ $20.00.  I bought both of ours on Amazon.  The light disc has since stopped spinning on them, but you can return them for a new one (you will see this on many of the reviews - don't know why they haven't corrected the problem, but its just made with plastic so I guess the motor/mechanism gets worn over time).  My girls don't need that as much, but I use the light as a nightlight in their room.  There is a 30, 45 or 60 minute timer, or you can just leave it on all the time.  Which is what we do.  With both of their monitors in our room, we get to hear the ocean in stereo. LOL

    This.

When we are at someone else's house and it's time for a nap we us a white noise app we downloaded on our IPad and IPhones called White Noise Pro. DD slept over my parent's house last night and we just unplugged the sound machine from her nursery and took it with us lol.

  • If you have iPod speakers or a CD player with repeat button, Amazon has baby white noise mp3s you can download. I downloaded a white noise album for $5, burned it on CD, and played it in the CD player on repeat in DS' room when he was smaller. Now I keep a lullaby CD playing and a fan running (not pointed at him if it's a cool night).

We just bought 1 baby white noise song off iTunes for $0.99 (the 'real fan noise' was the most consistent sounding) and used that on our ancient ipod we don't use anymore in an ipod alarm clock in her room.  When we traveled, we used the free app mentioned above.

But we actually just quit using white noise.  She spent a week at our in-laws while we were in Europe last month and didn't have a noise machine there.  We haven't used it since we've been back and she's been fine.  I'll probably only use it if we have friends over for dinner late/after she's in bed to drown out our noise.
