Coxsackie tell me

I think LO has coxsackie. She had a slight fever on Thursday and didn't have much of an appetite until yesterday. She's fine otherwise running, playing drinking. The reason I think she has it is because her cousin had it and we visited last week SIL didnt tell me about it until we were there!!. At bath time tonight we noticed rash on her butt. No sores on mouth, hands or feet. My question is, when is it ok to bring her to daycare? She hasn't had a fever since Friday and will be home with Daddy tomorrow. Will Tuesday be ok?

Re: Coxsackie tell me

  • My kids are just getting over hand foot and mouth.  They get a fever and get 'sick' before the rash starts.  DD has had a rash for exactly a week and it's fading, but it takes a while.  Our daycare does not allow the kids to be there if the sores are open.  We are sending the kids today...you can still see a bit of a rash, but it's dry and nothing is open.  DH got it from the kids and it's pretty bad in adults, so be careful.  No kissing and sharing with the kids...it's extremely painful and itchy in adults.  DH is off work this whole week.  It lasts a while.

  • When DS2 got it a few weeks ago he had sores way in the back of his mouth/throat that I couldn't even see.  I took him to the dr b/c of his rash and to confirm that's what he had---and as soon as they looked in his throat said "oh yeah...definitely".  Poor guy was in so much pain!  He was also drooling a ton which is not like him.

DS2 never got a fever but wasn't eating like he normally does and was waking up a ton at night.

Daycare wouldn't allow him in until the rashes got crusty and/or went away.  Even without fever.  THAT sucked!

Hope your LO doesn't have it.

  • DD just had this.  I got a call from her DC on Friday around noon that she was running a fever and 2 other moms called in that day and confirmed their kids had the virus.  The dr confirmed she was sick (raw, sore throat & fever, but no rash).  He told me that once her fever was gone, she would be ok going back to school.  She had a fever until Sat night, and then broke out in a few blisters on her toes and on her chin.  She drooled like crazy before then too, and had little appetite.  By Sunday afternoon she was in better spirits but I kept her home on Monday too even though she had no fever, just to give her one more day to heal.  She was definitely better yesterday though, no more drooling, huge appetite back, and chin sores were looking better.  I called her DC and they said as long as her fever was gone, she could come back - didn't matter if she still had blisters.  So she went back to school today.  She still has a few blisters on her toes, but she wears socks & shoes all day anyway.

I'd confirm the sick policy with your DC, also to let them know she had it so they can alert other parents.
