How many bottles does one need for a baby? I registered for a "starter kit" that comes with 5 bottles and I think the breast pump I registered for has like 2. Is that enough? Or do I need more?
Are you going to be breastfeeding or bottle feeding? Answer depends greatly on that. I had 1 bottle for her and she was ebf with a bottle about once a week of bm. Its worked fine. If ur exclusively bottle feeding you will need a lot more tho!
We formula feed and we have 7 bottles. I wouldn't mind to have double this though because it would keep me from having to wash bottles every. single. night. If we had double, I could load them in the dishwasher as I used them because we run it every other night, and then just wash the nipples by hand.

Depends on your situation. I EP and I have at least fifteen bottles, maybe more. I leave six in the fridge every day when I go to work, but I take five with me to pump into. And I guess we have a few more than that. There are two that I pump with in the morning and leave soaking in the sink. So there's two more. This system works for us, but some people get away with a lot less.
I had to EP for my oldest and we had 9 bottles. She usually had 4 bottles a day, occasionally she'd have a 5th on a hungry day, so that was enough for 2 days. Even though I usually washed daily (we didn't have a dishwasher) it was good for the occasional night either we were out late or I was exhausted.
With my second I EBF and we had 3 bottles and could have done with 1 easily. I SAH and didn't have the opportunity to leave her very often and she refused the bottle (but would take BM from a sippy cup) by 9 months.
Some babies are picky about bottle brands. I registered for Dr. Brown's and then my DD refused to use them. We tried several before she finally decided she'd grudgingly tolerate Avent.
So I'd register for no more than three or four to keep on hand. Or maybe try a couple of brands.
I agree with the PPs that the total number will depend on whether you BF or FF, whether you work and how often you do dishes. I BFed and worked PT and ran the dishwasher every three days. The right number for me was nine bottles.

Like PPs said, it really depends on your situation. I would definite wait to buy more because you'll need to know if your LO likes the bottle you've already bought. If they do and you need more, then you can buy the same brand..if LO won't drink out of those bottles, then you'll be rushing to the store for a new brand anyway.
The other thing to know is that you will likely want to start with the 4oz or 5oz bottles...but by the time LO is 3 months +, you'll probalby want the 9 oz bottles anyway. So, you don't need a ton of the little ones.
For us, LO is EBF and only took one bottle a day for the first 4 months, so having 5 bottles was perfectly fine. Now that he's in daycare and taking 3 bottles a day, we have 8 and I think daily about getting to Target to buy more because it's easier than washing them after a long day of work every day.
We're at 3-4 months (depending on how you count) and still use the 5 ounce bottles. I don't plan to go up to the big ones any time soon, as she won't be drinking that much breastmilk in a sitting. Also, the big ones would get heavy to pump into and carry around. Right now she drinks 3-4 ounces at a time (closer to 4 usually), but that's not supposed to change much for quite some time.
Good comments already. I liked having a lot so I never had to hand wash (we always used the dishwasher, even with our Dr Browns bottles - used the basket for all the little parts).
My additional comment - if you are going to DC, you'll need to have plastic bottles (I'd just buy the larger bottles for that if so). Its also nice to have at least a couple plastic bottles for travel/tossing in your diaper bag.
