3 Month Growth Spurt?

I was wondering if anyone's LO's night sleeping has changed since they have hit 3 months. My son is EBF and we were getting into a routine of asleep by 9 pm at the latest and up around 2am to eat and then sleeping again for another 3 hours. Well the past few nights he has been up numerous times a night, sometimes every hour and has been screaming and fussy at night. The past few nights have reminded me from when he was a few weeks old. I am walking around like a zombie and am having trouble going back to bed when he actually is asleep, like right now. We haven't changed anything during the day, his naps seem to be at the same time and the same amount of time and he doesn't demand to be fed more during the day.

I didn't know if this is part of the 3 month growth spurt or what. My son is a very happy baby and hardly ever cries, that's why I am hoping it is just a growth spurt. Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

Re: 3 Month Growth Spurt?

  • I am up right now because of the same thing. Not that DD has ever been a great sleeper, but for the past few weeks she's been consistently sleeping for 5-6 hours at her longest stretch. Last night she went to sleep at 8, woke at 10, then 1130, then 1230, then 2....you get the idea, basically every hour and a half. Even though she's past the 3 month mark, I think it's a growth spurt. Yesterday she nursed every two hours, and a few times finished both breasts at a feeding. Here's hoping our LOs get back into a good sleep routine soon!

  • Same here. For the past week DD wakes up every 1 1/2-2 hours at night.

I think it might be an early onset of the 4 month wakeful... I'm ready to be done with it already!

From what I've read, they're so busy learning new skills and getting distracted by their abilities now, that they don't eat as much as they should be. Instead, they make up for it at night :-/

  • I am terrified of the 4 mo wakeful period now that DD is sleeping great, She still won't nap if not in my arms and nurses every 1 1/2-2h during the day.

I noticed her getting distracted while nursing a couple of times. She would stop and look at the ceiling fan, Then she would cry because she wasn't latched anymore. Indifferent

  • Glad to know that I'm not alone either! My little one has been sleeping great and wakes only once to nurse in the middle of the night except for the past week....she's been up 2-3 times making mommy very tired!!!

  • My LO has been sleeping through the night for about a month now, but the last few nights she has been getting up around 2.am.  She started throwing tantrums when she gets tired too and will no longer take a pacifier. She is normally a really happy baby so, this new change stinks!

  • If it's any consolation, I just went through the same thing with DS.  He is EBF and would regularly feed him about every 3 hours during the night.  About a week ago, he was up every 2-2.5 hours howling to be fed.  This went on for 2 or 3 nights.  Then it happened - he only woke up to eat at 12:30 and woke up at 6.  (His bedtime is 6 pm, but we're slowly pushing it back to 7.)  Then to our amazement, he slept from 6 pm to 6 am 2 nights ago!  I'm pretty convinced this was his 3 month growth spurt.  It sounds like your LO is going through the same thing.  I hope your son follows suit and gives you some restful nights in the near future!
