January 2013 Moms

Anxious & Impatient

I am going stir crazy! My wife is about 23.5 weeks along now- and while things are going by pretty quickly... things are going by pretty slowly too.

I desperately want my daughter to be here!

I was always "so-so" about pregnancy. My wife and I weren't really sure we wanted to even have kids. After my wife told me she was pregnant, (LOL, I'll never forget.. once she told me that she started crying... I put on my shoes, and said "Let's go get some Froyos!" because it was Tuesday and it is our Tuesday tradition lol like nothing happened)... it took me about 6 seconds to warm up to the idea.

I absolutely cannot wait to be a father. My childhood wasn't the best- my father(single parent) provided for me financially but he traveled for work a lot. Financially, he is very wealthy. Emotionally, he is not. His way of showing love was buying things (and it still is this way: he has bought us everything big we wanted on our registry, paid for our honeymoon, paid for our babymoon, etc)  I spent many Holidays alone. I don't really know that "Christmas Morning" feeling that kids get as they anticipate presents and a big meal, etc. But I swear- it has to be something like this. I think part of me feels like I can have those Hallmark Greeting Card moments- but now as the role of the father instead of the child. I don't know- I guess it is silly thinking but I cannot wait to be father.

My problem is that almost every day, I seem to be counting down another day and it just makes it go by so so so slow. I try to think back to when we were at the OB office and they told us she was 8 weeks pregnant. That was 15 weeks ago! In another 15 weeks, she will be 38 weeks and my daughter will be here any day. I am hoping the Holidays will make it speed by too.

I don't know.. just rambling. Bored on a conference call at work and was just thinking about my daughter and wanted to share!

How do you guys handle waiting impatiently?

  • I can't handle it either lol... I've been waiting for this for so long! :)

  • My Husband and I are impatient too! Emma is going to rock our worlds and we can't wait :-) Froyo is the best pregnancy treat by far!!!

  • My DH cant wait either me on the other hand I feel like time could slow down a little bit.. I really feel like the holidays are going to make everything fly by.. She will be here before you know it..

  • Were not exactly making time pass but were taking advantage of it by doing more "us" activities that we know wont be so easy once LO gets here such as: Movies, quiet dinners, sleeping in late and ordering chinese in bed and weekend trips to the finger lakes. Nothing big but Im sure we'll appreciate the relaxing time spent together in a few months.

I wonder if he can't wait either because as the guy- we really don't participate as much in the whole pregnancy thing. We are more there just for support while you do all the work. Once the baby is here- we have a more active role in the growing and interaction with the baby. :)

  • Your wife and I are due the same day, so we're exactly at the same point you are. We're looking forward to starting all of our big appointments (CPR course, breastfeeding course, childbirth education, etc) and think that will help time move a tiny bit faster. As much as I want it to race by, I start to think about all we have yet to accomplish and I'm happy it's going the speed it is. I can't wait to meet our little Squish, but I want to be ready. Oh the constant battle!!!

True. I did forget we have all of our classes coming up the end of Oct all the way through Dec 5. So that will help pass the time. I think once November hits- it will be warp drive after that.

Where are you at Yellow? We used to live in the finger lakes region and miss it like CRAZY!

  • I can definitely understand your feelings... and am very excited to finally meet our son (due January 26). But as excited as I am about it, I'm also very grateful for this time because, as a FTM, I am using it to prepare myself as much as possible for handling what will be a huge (but awesome!) transition in my & DH's lives. Reading books, taking classes, researching products, preparing the nursery, etc... I'm hoping that taking the time to do these things will make us better parents when it finally is time for baby Alex to arrive. Smile

You are very lucky. I grew up in Northwest PA and did my college/post-grad in central NY. Cannot wait to move back up there!

I do love it here :) What area did you grow up in?

  • Some days, I feel this way too - my husband still teases me about a comment I made on a walk when I was only about 9 weeks along: "I just wish this baby would hurry up and pop out so I could meet it already!!" - wow, I do feel like that was forever ago now...I feel like I need this time to get prepared, mentally and emotionally and everything else around the house too...and I've been reading a lot of different parenting books for several years down the road too - my mom said one of her biggest obstacles as a FTM was she felt like she didn't think enough or learn enough about what came AFTER the birth - she was so focused on the process I guess.  You and your wife are very blessed to have each other, so maybe as a PP said, try to take this time to savor those moments you have together - especially those little traditions!  (ours is pizza+wings+Masterpiece Mystery on Sunday nights...our Froyo place is too far away, haha!)

  • Definitely feeling anxiously impatient. November will mark our 4 year anniversary of when we started TTC... So, one would think that 4 more months is nothing, but I can't wait to finally meet my baby! :)

Grew up in Erie. Still get back there about twice a year. My husband's family is in south Jersey, so we're in the Philly area a few times a year too.
