Baby weight question (the actual baby, not how much YOU put on)!

Someone on my Babyzone board posted this info from her midwife...

Between an ultrasound, a doctor/midwif'e's guess, and a mother's guess, the mother's guess about the baby's weight is usually the closest to the actual weight.

My guess for this one is somewhere between 8 lb 14 oz and 9 lb 2 oz. The doc guessed 9 lb yesterday. We'll see on Friday if we're right.

Were you right about your kids' weight?

  • I figured she's be 7ish and she was 7lbs 6oz. My doc was pretty accurate too.

  • right before my c/s, dh and i made a bet.  i said she would be over 8 lb and he said under.  she weighed 7 lb 15.6 oz.  i lost by .4 oz.

  • Heck no. I carried small the 2nd time and he was over 9 lbs- 2.5 weeks early!

DD, I was young and gaind a shitload amount of weight, but I still would have never guessed for her to be over 9 lbs either.

  • I honestly never thought about how much he'd weigh.  I just knew he'd be a big baby.  My OB never estimated the weight either.  Or at least shared that with me.  And I had a ton of u/s's done but the techs never mentioned anything about the weight.  I guess that's why I never thought about it.

  • I never guessed and my OB never guessed.  Son was 8 lbs 9 ounces.

My midwife said based on the 36 week u/s they wouldn't let me go past 40 weeks.  I did the math on what she says is the weight gain by week and my dd was slightly bigger than what she "should be" based on their averaging... she was 8 lbs 12 ounces at week 39.

I never guessed on any of them.

  • Nobody tried to guess Nora's weight as far as I know.
  • The OB predicted 7lb.9oz. and he was born weighing exactly 7lb.9oz.  I had no predictions.

  • My doc also never gave any estimates or guesses of her weight. I always measured normal so it never came up. I thought she'd be in the mid to high 6 lb range, and she was 7 lbs 2 oz

  • Nope.  I think I guessed around 7lbs even.  My OB said 7lbs 12oz to 8lbs and he was 7lbs 12oz at birth!

  • I thought he was going to be a 9 pounder.  My OB estimated 8 lbs.  He came 2 weeks early and was 7 lb 10 oz.  Had I gone to 40 weeks, he probably would have been pretty close to 9 though.
  • I didn't have any hunches.  I had a few ultrasounds in the last few weeks because she was breech for a while.  They put her in the 25th percentile and she was born at 7 lb 1 oz, which I think is 30th percentile.  So U/S was pretty accurate in my case.
  • I thought she'd be around 8lbs and she was 8lbs15oz.  My doctor thought she was 7 1/2lbs :).

  • I guessed she'd be big because I was.  She ended up being exactly my birth weight, 8 lbs. 15 oz.

  • Dr. said she was "an average 7 lb baby." I thought she was closer to 9 lbs though. She was 9 lbs 2 0z.! Mama was right :)
  • I guessed 8 lbs 8 oz and he was 8 lbs 15 oz.
  • I was way off.  DS was 5lbs 10oz, I thought he would be much bigger!
  • I thought she'd be in the 6.5 lb range, but she was 7 lbs 8 oz. DR guessed over 8 lbs.
