Kissing? Not BF related

I picked SS(4) up from preschool today, and when he went to leave his teacher gave him a huge hug and kiss on his forehead. It wasn't quick. It was kind of like when SS and I are goofing off and I grab him and kiss him and won't let him run away. I've never seen her do this before. It weirded me out. Is it common for teachers to kiss their students at this age?

(I posted this on the pre-school board too)

  • depends if she does it to the other kids as well? that would be my first reaction, to see if she singled out SS, or maybe if SS had a bad day?

interested to see the responses on this...

  • In today's day and age, that is no longer appropriate. If she does it again I would ask her not to. That's just my opinion though.

I agree. Kids can be very affectionate and you don't just brush them off, but as a teacher you should never initiate this sort of behaviour. It is very unprofessional.

  • He had a great day! He loves school and everything has been great at home. I have never seen her kiss any other kids. I'm glad I'm not being paranoid. It definitely bothers me. I'll pick him up early and double check to see if she does this to anyone else's kids, and I will definitely let her know I'm not comfortable with it.

    Thanks for y'alls input.

  • SS's preschool had a no kissing policy.  They said for not spreading diseases, but probably also for not having to deal with these kinds of situations.  I think it's inappropriate.  I wouldn't like it either.

  • I don't think I've ever seen a teacher ever initiate physical contact with either of my kids. When DS hugs a teacher, she'll hug him back. There's a coach at DS's school who gives him high fives. That's really about it.

And for me personally, I cannot imagine grabbing a child (other than mine) and hugging or kissing him.

I have a friend whose mother is the vice-principal of a Catholic school - after graduation she gave a hug and a kiss on the cheek to one of her students who barely squeaked through - sexual harassment charges were brought up against her.  So I would think most if not all schools have a no kissing policy.

    I have to say it...
