Allergy meds??

Do any of you ladies know if it's safe to take allergy medicine. Thanks in advance! My allergies are horrible right now!

  • Claritin with loratidine is OK.  I've been taking one a day for years, including during my pg and while bf-ing.  Congrats on your LO!

  • All antihistamines can dry up your milk because they dry up all secretions. Have you tried using a nettie pot to irrigate your nasal sinuses?

  • Claritin is considered the safest but it can affect milk supply as others have said. However, I am taking it and did not notice a difference in supply at all. I was not going to be able to continue nursing if I did not have something for allergies because mine are so severe.

  • Decongesants will dry up all secretions. Antihistamines are perfectly safe and frankly, humane. I have taken both Zyrtec and Claritin at various times without any effect on my milk supply. I also use Flonase. Don't suffer, there is no need. Avoid the "D" formulas.

I hate when people try to scare you off taking any medications at all. It's just useless suffering.

  • I've taken Allegra both when pregnant and while bf'ing. My dr said it was fine.
