Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

12 month old has never woken up happy/content/quiet!!!

My 12 month old has never woken either from nap, or for morning, in a good mood - happily, quiet, singing, blabbing, sitting, etc. She is always screaming and crying the moment she wakes up until we get her and hold her for a few minutes....

My first child was not like this at all, she would be quiet or blabbing for at least a few minutes, if not longer...

What gives? Any other baby like this?

  • My son is 17 months, same story. He crie when we put him in for naps/bed too. Otherwise he is very happy kid though.

  • With our twins we have the same thing!  Our DD wakes up happy babbling, and DS wakes up and freaks out...he will calm down though some days and start talking to DD, since they share a room.  One thing that has helped though is putting a book in there for the morning!

  • My 1st instinct is personality.  Although the pp about crib activities makes sense too.  Also were the LO is in development.

My DD takes after DH and is easy going.  I think about if #2 (should we be so lucky) took after me I'd reply to your post with a resounding "same here".

  • my younger daughter (now 19 months) was like that until recently.  she is extremely happy just woke up crying, etc.

She now is learning to play on her own , etc. and she now wakes up talking or playing.

  • This was my son at 12 months as well.  Now, sometimes he's happy but other times he screams when he wakes. We try bringing different stuffed animals in to say "hello" when he first wakes.  Or just bringing him over to the window to look out.  He's just kind of a grumpy little guy when he first wakes.  But otherwise, he's a happy kid.

  • My son used to be that way.  He stopped at maybe 14 months or so and is usually happy when he wakes up now.  Hopefully it's just a stage for your LO, too.

  • My son is the same way. He aaaaaaalways wakes up cranky till he gets a snack. :)
