Baby advil= baby Tylenol?

I keep seeing that everyone is giving their LO Tylenol for their shots; where are you finding it? I've looked at multiple pharmacies, grocery stores, walmart, target, etc and can only find Infant Advil. The Advil says 6months, is tylenol the same and you just use a smaller dose?

Re: Baby advil= baby Tylenol?

  • They don't advise using baby advil/motrin/ibuprofen on infants younger than 6 months. I found the last baby tylenol in a store brand at Walmart.  I buy store brands with no issue. Have you tried asking the pharmacist?

  • I found ours at Target. It's generic Tylenol, the Up and Up brand. I can't remember if they had regular Tylenol for infants because I was still pregnant at time so it's been a while. Anyway, it's in a white and blue box that says dye free infants' pain and fever acetaminophen. It's safe for infants under 6 months unlike Advil or ibuprofen. I found it in pain reliever section, but have since seen it on side of end cap near the baby toiletries also. Hope that helps!

  • I feel like I might remember a recall on actual "Infant Tylenol" a little while back. So the only things on the shelves is infant acetaminophen in store brands. I found mine at Target. The box doesn't have an age, just tells you to refer to a doctor for a dose for children under two.

  • Baby center has a chart for dosage. It can be downloaded onto your iPhone, I would assume other phones too! There's a chart for acetaminophen and ibuprofen, I have both on my phone, very helpful with a sick kid. Also I was always told go by weight not age when giving them OTC pain relief, ask your pedi to be sure!

This is correct. Tylenol brand doesn't make an infant option anymore since the recall, but many generic brands still offer it. I usually buy it at Walgreens.

  • I bought the CVS store brand just look for acetaminophen which is what Tylenol is. All the packages for acetaminophen and Advil (ibuprofen) will say ask a doctor for under 6 months. Our Doctor told us we could use both for fevers. Ask your doctor for a dosage chart.
