describe feeling hiccups to me

I didn't have a lot of movement feeling with DD #1 (anterior placenta) but this kid I am feeling moving around like crazy!  I've seen people post about feeling the baby have hiccups so I was wondering if you could tell me what they feel like.  Is it just a bunch of small movements?  Is there a rhythm to it?  This kid is just SO much more active than I ever felt DD!

Re: describe feeling hiccups to me

  • You will recognize them..it feels like when you have them but instead of in your chest..your little bump will bounce gently and repeatedly for a few minutes at a time.  Mine gets them 3x/day even!  You will know!  Especially getting stronger as baby grows.  It feels like kicks but repeatedly in same spot.  I can even feel my babys back/spine as she lives hunched over in a ball on one side of me.

  • Basically feels like a small steady thump every few seconds in your belly. I'm 35 weeks and baby has been getting them almost daily now!

  • Yep, it's rhythmic, and kind of jumpy. To me, it's almost spastic.

  • Our lil guy gets hiccups frequently and for me they are all situated in one place, are rhythmic and if they are strong make my whole stomach twitch.

  • The way hiccups feel on the outside when you hiccup is how they feel on the inside.  Very short, one-twitch type of feeling and they'll be continuous.  I've felt as little as 5 at a time and as much as feeling them for 5 minutes.  They're very distinctive so when you feel them I'm sure you'll know it.

  • I would agree with PP, they are pretty unmistakeable. When LO was smaller, I wasn't sure if it was hiccups the first few times, but now I am 33 weeks, and they have been very unmistakeable for a long time now. He gets them at least 3 times a day now. I don't know if that is more than normal, but it seems like a lot to me. It is definitely a rhythym, and it feels like your belly has the hiccups. Also, if I feel my belly, it is a good way to figure out where baby's head is. I know he is head down already, but sometimes his head is just to the left, other times to the right, and I can totally tell by feeling him when he hiccups. They are shorter and closer together than your own hiccups would be. The first time I really felt them, I was surprised by how close together and quick they were.

  • Also, sometimes if baby is head down, I feel them (seriously) in my butt and my va-jay-jay.  It's the craziest thing...  Like everyone's said, continuous steady thump.  But when they're "down there" they feel like you could see them from the outside.  When they're in my belly, I can only see them from the outside maybe 50% of the time.

  • I describe them as "pulse-like"....very rhythmic. I don't find them as strong as kicks.
  • It's like kicks but they have a consistent pattern.

  • It definitely has a rhythm to it... almost like a heart beat.  Doesn't feel strong like a kick.

  • I have felt rhythmic movement, but never for more than a few pulses at a time. I guess my LO hasn't had them yet!
