Baby modeling

They approached my mom and sister in the mall today. They are interested in Lou and my niece. Scam??? Anyone have experience with this? They want to interview my sister and I on Saturday but I feel like it is not worth it. Too good to be true or something. My gut feeling is scam.

Re: Baby modeling

  • It depends. People getting involved in modeling/commercials here in LA is pretty common. I would research to see if it's an actual agency. If they try to get you to enroll in some "school" or "classes" run for the hills. I have friends whose kids do quite well, they were not "discovered". They went to reputable agencies on their own.

  • I looked into getting an agent for D and they wanted to sign her but honestly it was way too much for right now. You have to go to casting calls on a day or so notice then go back for the job if it's booked. We live an hour away from LA where all the jobs are and she is hating the car now so I pulled out. But if you want to go through with make sure it is legit. Do your research. They should NOT charge you ANYTHING!! If they ask for any money, especially upfront, it is a scam!

  • Since they asked about both of them, I would def say scam. They are probably just throwing stuff out to see if they can reel anyone in and make them pay for something.

  • That is what I was thinking but they are both freaking adorable so I am going back and forth!

  • I really don't know much about the modeling world, but I've always heard that you should not pay for anything, such as pictures, up front.  Those are the scams.

  • If it is for a " school" or they are asking for money, it is a scam. If your baby has a personality where you think baby modeling is going to be something that works, contact local modeling agencies directly for an interview.

  • They aren't asking for money but want us to interview. No harm in that right? I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks and I will keep my guard up!!

  • An agency was/is interested in Jack (we went to them though) and they are a reputable agency as they are the children's division of a big name agency.

We went to their interview/info session, but we decided not to do it.  One reason was that, like Ladybug said, they told us that we would generally be told about a job or audition the day or night before.  Short notice would be difficult for us since we live outside of the city.  Also, it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way when they suggested that if J was booked for a job and ended up say waking up with a scratch on his face or something that we should put concealer on him before we leave the house.

I don't know why but that just made me feel weird.  It is a very adult business and I guess overall I felt uneasy with it.  We are thinking that maybe when he is old enough to tell us if something is wrong or he hates it then we will revisit the idea.

This agency did not want any money up front and does not expect a portfolio or headshots for children under 3 because they age so quickly.  They take a standard commission on the work you do, but you don't pay fees.  The only fee we would have been expected to pay was a minimal admin. fee that takes care of long distance phone calls, faxes, courier services etc.

Thank you for your experience. I always wanted to put my kids in acting or modeling but realistically do not know if this is doable.
