2+ moms- double strollers

What style works best for you?  The side by side jogger style, or front to back?  I will have a 24 month old when the new baby arrives.  I've been researching both and am not sure.  The sit n stand double looks great to grow with, but some people say the front to back styles are more difficult to maneuver.  What is your experience?

Re: 2+ moms- double strollers

  • I did a lot of research and I have several double strollers. I'm not a huge fan of the side by side. It's hard to get through doorways. Not bad if you are at the park, zoo ect. My by far fav is: https://www.kolcraft.com/baby-products/strollers/tandem-strollers/contours-optima-tandem-stroller.html

It has reversible seats that can be positioned six different ways. I had a sit and stand for about a week a week and I returned it. My oldest at the time didn't like the seat and he would just jump off.

  • I was a nanny to 2 kids and LOVED the Phil & Ted stroller.  I can't speak for using it with a newborn though- the kids I watched were 3 and 1.5...

It was awesome though- big wheels, fit through any door since it's the size of a single stroller.  That stroller was my best friend, haha

I love this! I just started looking at double strollers as well. There are so many out there it gets very overwhelming, I love this one though!

  • I am a research nut and I've narrowed down my list to the Bumbleride Indie Twin.  I originally wanted the Baby Jogger City Select but I used my cousins and I didn't like pushing it at all.  I think its probably the best tandem you can get but you may want to try it out before you buy it.  My husband and I just didn't feel like it was for us.  Our needs though are more of a walking/all terrain stroller with a big basket so that's what led me to Bumbleride.  My second choice is the Baby Jogger City Mini GT but I don't like the basket and that's important to me.

I think what I've learned as I've looked more into doubles is to figure out what your biggest needs are and then go from there.  I thought the City Select was going to be perfect but for our needs, it really doesn't work as well in the end.  I like the side by sides myself because they push better and for me, that's more important than the versatility of the seats.  In our neighborhood, we have to be able to go up and down curbs easily and I just didn't think a tandem was going to cut it for that.

I liked Babygizmo reviews also!  The youtube ones are pretty helpful.

I saw a mom out with this stroller this past weekend and she just raved about it!  It is however, out of our price range.  I would love to find something that fits our needs for around $200.  I know that there are a lot better ones for more, but I just can't spend that much.

  • I also purchased the sit 'n stand when I had my second and didn't care for it at all. My oldest daughter (3 at the time) always wanted to sit in the front seat and hated the bench that she could sit on or stand by. We ended up purchasing a Maclaren side by side stroller for a trip we took when the girls were 4 & 1. It folded up nicely for traveling, but like another poster said, it is very difficult to get around because at most stores, aisles are not wide enough for it to fit through. I guess I can't really give a recommendation for a good one, just a recommendation for what to avoid. :) Good luck!

I would check Craigslist.  I've seen Bumblerides for $300 and Maclarens for under $150.  I am currently searching Craigslist hoping to get the Bumbleride.

Just curious if you had the Sit n stand actual double stroller- with two real seats, the back one is removable to just have the bench seat to use.  I don't know if the double version is new or not.  I've heard many people not like just having the bench in the back, but maybe the version with two seats would fix the issue.

  • Two thoughts: 1. A side by side it great for the park or in your neighborhood walking, but not so good for stores or malls.

    2. If you really want a nice stroller, shop the thrift stores. A friend of mine from colorado has been shopping for her little one and has everything she needs, and she's a name brand person, for pennies on the dollar. You just have to be willing to put in the time to really look.

    Good luck whatever you decide!
  • We plan on getting the Graco Readytogrow because it has two seats, the infant carrier will attach, and later it can be a sit n stand. Plus, budget friendly.
