How much sleep does your 3-4 year old get?

DD dropped all naps at age 3, and now she's almost 4. She sleeps 10 hours at night, from 8 p.m. usually until 6 a.m. But sometimes, she'll thrown in a night where she doesn't fall asleep until close to 9, and she still gets up between 5:30 - 6:00 a.m. Just trying to regain at least one full hour of sleep for the entire household in the morning:) She has a good sleep routine - a bath on most nights, followed by reading books in her bedroom and lights out. I would just think a highly energetic kid like her needs more than 9 hours of sleep!!!

  • About 12 hours daily. He only occasionally naps.

  • 10 hours at night 23 hour nap. We are so lucky he still takes a long nap.

  • My little guy will be 4 in January.

He sleeps 10ish hours per night and naps weekdays at daycare 1-2 hours.  Only naps on weekends if we are in the car in the afternoon.

He needs less sleep than his older brother, IMO.  But he expends his energy (physical, mental, emotional) differently/more conservatively than his brother too.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • On a normal night, he sleeps from 8pm to 7 or 7:15am. So 11 hours or a little more.

Sometimes he sleeps from right after 8pm until 7:45 am! We see better behavior on days he has had 11.5 hours or so.

He does have days he only sleeps from 8pm to 6am.....that used to pretty normal for us. And I'm so glad that something clicked and he started making it until at least 7am most mornings.

  • 10.5-11 hours at night.  My 3 year olds nap on occasion if we're in the car at just the right time, but my 4 yr old hasn't napped in 2 years.

  • DD will be 4 next week. She sleeps 10.5-11 hours/night. She goes to bed between 7:30 and 8 and I wake her up at 6:45 to get ready and take DS to school. She does not nap at all.

  • He sleeps 10-12 hours during a 24 hour period.  On weekdays, he goes to bed at 7:30, and we get him up at 6:30.  He usually doesn't nap at daycare.  On weekends he goes to bed around 8:00 and wakes up around 7:00.  He usually takes a 1-2 hour nap at home too.

  • DS still naps...I work nights and it's the only sleep I get before going into work.  He naps from 12-2.  He goes to bed between 8-9 and wakes at 7am.  On the rare days he doesn't nap, he goes to bed a bit earlier, between 7-8, so he usually gets around 12 hours total.

  • DS is 4.5 and dropped naps around age 2. Currently he's sleeping about 8pm to 6 am. Sometimes he's up before 5 though :(  And yes, he's highly energetic, but wont nap. On bad days we have him in bed by 7-730.

  • DD normally sleeps 10 hrs at night and at least an hour nap at daycare.  On the weekends she will nap 2-3 hours.
  • She gets about 11 hours of nighttime sleep.  Goes to bed tired at 8/8:15 and is asleep by within 10 minutes of my leaving.  I wakes her up for daycare about 7, left of her own devices/on the weekend, she'll sleep until 8.  She still naps for about 1 hour at daycare.  I'd really like to wake her up earlier in the mornings, but until i can get her to bed earlier (which is really hard w/ my own schedule and commuting) I don't see it happening.

  • I just looked this up b/c I don't think DD gets enough sleep. It's supposed to be about 12 hours total in a 24 hour period (general guide; all kids different) for age 3--4. DD goes to bed way too late, but she would make up for it in naps. Recently, she's starting dropping naps on the weekend when we are home...I think she just doesn't want to miss anything. She will stay in her room for an hour or more, quiet, but just will not sleep. But then, she's a wreck later. Still naps great for the nanny.

  • Wow, my kid seems to be one of the few non-nappers! I am glad she doesn't get cranky, though anymore without a nap, as starting 4K next year without a nap won't be a big deal for her, as I've heard it can be for kids who still nap past age 4.

  • My son dropped naps when he turned 3, and at almost 4.5 now he gets between 10 -11 hrs a night, usually 8pm - 6.30 or 7amI can see a big difference in behaviour when he gets 11 hrs, he is a lot less cranky.
  • Annalise still napped at 3. She was sleeping 12 hours total then - 10 at night with a 2 hour nap. At 4, she didn't nap on weekends, but she did during the week. She was in the morning 4K program, so she napped after lunch at daycare. She was probably at 12 hours total sleep then too. When she dropped her nap at 5, she finally started sleeping 11 hours at night.

  • Both my 5 yo DD and my 3 yo DS get about 11 hours at night. DD dropped naps at 2 and DS dropped naps just before turning 3. Both go down by 7-7:30 and sleep until 6 for DS and closer to 7 for DD. DD was a horrible sleeper as an infant and toddler, but as she gets older she sleeps more soundly and sleeps much later than she used to.
